| Talisker089807-05-07, 02:39 AM | I know there are a few PrCs out there that offer feats that let you fire a ranged weapon while threatened and not incur an AoO - Are there any stand alone Feats out there that do this? Thanks Tali |
| pokemaniacbill07-05-07, 02:42 AM | Sure. Order of the Bow Initiate is one I know. |
| Talisker089807-05-07, 02:46 AM | OoBI is a PrC. I am looking for stand alone feats that are not tied to a pretige class. I know OoBI and Justice of Wield and Woe both get feats for this, but I am looking for something to take early, without investing several levels into a PrC. |
| Majick07-05-07, 02:51 AM | Take Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Great Bow) and then take a single level in Exotic Weapon Master PrC and take the close combat ranged weapon trick this will allow you to fire a bow that does 2d6 (that can also be made composite) at range or in close combat with no AoO *Note: You need to be using an exotic weapon to qualify for this PrC (duh) and i think you also might need a few ranks in craft: weapon or something like that |
| runestar07-05-07, 03:11 AM | 5-ft step?:P |
| The.Vortex07-05-07, 04:18 AM | Not a feat but a spell: Arrow Mind - it even allows you to make AoOs with your bow and is only an immediate action to cast.. pretty nice for a level 1 spell! |
| Arniha07-05-07, 04:28 AM | Bayonet (complete scoundrel) make stabbity death on the guy threatening you then fire. |
| Inigo Carmine07-05-07, 08:45 AM | Take Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Great Bow) and then take a single level in Exotic Weapon Master PrC and take the close combat ranged weapon trick this will allow you to fire a bow that does 2d6 IIRC the Greatbow is only 1d10. Anyways, while everyone here has been helpful, you haven't been answering the specific uestion he's been asking. Yes, there is a standalone feat for it, but it is considered epic (meaning you must be lv 21+ to take it) COMBAT ARCHERY [EPIC] Prerequisites: Dodge, Mobility, Point Blank Shot. Benefit: The character does not incur any attacks of opportunity for firing a bow when threatened. Normal: Without this feat, a character incurs an attack of opportunity from all opponents who threaten him or her whenever he or she uses a bow. Many people (myself included) think it should be non-epic, though I will also state that I think it should still be a high lvl ability; BAB 15+ pre-req or similar. |
| Werral07-05-07, 10:56 AM | How about making Greater Weapon Spec: Bow a PrQ? |
| Talisker089807-05-07, 12:30 PM | Thank you all very much. |
| Dheran07-05-07, 08:38 PM | If you're willing to get into rules lawyer territory you don't need a feat at all: just use a full attack with your bow. The only place that specifies that ranged weapons provoke AoOs is in the "Standard Actions" section of the Combat chapter. Table 8-2: Actions in Combat explicitly states that a Full attack doesn't provoke, and the text never contradicts this table. Was this what was intended? Almost certainly not. But it's RAW. |
| WolfHati07-05-07, 09:04 PM | But to do a full attack action you have to start with a standard attack action. And anyway, specific rules trump general ones. As for avoiding AoOs in combat, ranged attackres bei ng threatened in melee without being able to 5' step out of it tends to be a very uncommon situation. If you're really worried about that sort of thing, getting quick draw would probably be a better choice for getting out a greatsword or something if your back really is to the wall. |
| Dheran07-06-07, 03:55 AM | But to do a full attack action you have to start with a standard attack action. Huh? This is just totally wrong, so I suggest you re-read the Combat chapter. Here's the synopsis of action types:Action Types An action’s type essentially tells you how long the action takes to perform (within the framework of the 6-second combat round) and how movement is treated. There are six types of actions: standard actions, move actions, full-round actions, free actions, swift actions, and immediate actions. In a normal round, you can perform a standard action and a move action, or you can perform a full-round action. You can also perform one or more free actions. You can always take a move action in place of a standard action. You cannot mix a standard action with a full attack action by the normal rules. Maybe you're thinking of the option to decide between a standard and a full attack:Deciding between an Attack or a Full Attack After your first attack, you can decide to take a move action instead of making your remaining attacks, depending on how the first attack turns out. This is an option, not a requirement, and is illegal for various types of full attack (such as attacking with two weapons, where you must accept the penalty for TWF on the first swing). And anyway, specific rules trump general ones. I have no clue what you're referring to here. Care to disambiguate this for us? |
