The 4th level option is to get the Awesome Blow feat (no need to meet the prerequisites) in exchange for giving up the ability to turn undead. The book states "As a standard action she can spend a daily smite evil attempt and strike an evil creature as if she had the Awesome Blow feat. Note that the paladin doesn't also gain the normal benefit of smite evil". Perfectly understand the wording. My paladin currently has Improved Smiting from the Complete Divine which grants her an extra d6 of damage "...whenever you make a smite attack...". Question: if she takes the 4th level option and uses up a smite to trigger the Awesome Blow feat, is she still able to use her Improved Smiting when calculating damage? (assuming of course her foe is evil). Because the Champion book reads "...spend a daily smite evil attempt..." I'm thinking the Improved Smiting doesn't come into play because she is not actually smiting evil, rather she is giving up one of her uses of smite in exchange for the awesome blow. Yes? No? |
