| reapersedge04-09-07, 11:19 PM | This is something that's been bothering me. If I was a gestalt monk/fighter, and I took the Ordered Chaos feat at level 3, would I be allowed to change to a monk/barabarian without a penalty? Though the alignment remains lawful, I think that ordered chaos would allow for me to be a raging monk... am I right??? |
| AviseLaFin04-19-07, 08:09 PM | I checked the SRD, where is the feat ordered chaos from? It sounds like it might work, I've also been intrested in a barbarian/monk multiclass build. My idea was more along the lines of a sect of monks whose training was based on chaos, similar to drunken masters. |
| runestar04-19-07, 10:18 PM | It's from fiendish codex, supposedly lets you be treated as lawful for interacting with certain effects. Not sure how it interacts with monk/barb combinations though.:P |
| Wizardmon04-19-07, 10:27 PM | I'm pretty sure that Bard's have to be non-lawful, so you have to have some alignment canceling thing from the beginning, right? (I have only played one gestalt game O.o) |
| AviseLaFin04-19-07, 10:29 PM | I wish I could help you further but I do not own the Fiendish Codex I. If you could quote the feat I could give you my opinion. Its sounds like a crazy combination that might possibly be really good. I'll check back to see if anybody else chimes in. |
| Perseus_Stoned04-19-07, 10:31 PM | It's from fiendish codex, supposedly lets you be treated as lawful for interacting with certain effects. Not sure how it interacts with monk/barb combinations though.:P Based on this, then thats a definite no. The alignment isn't a "requirement" for a magic item or something, that can be tricked. Its a lifestyle that has to be lived in order to uphold the discipline of the monk and the savagery of the barbarian. However, there is definitely an official chaotic monk variant out there somewhere, I came on it awhile back- you could check that out. |
| Dead_Weasel04-19-07, 10:34 PM | I am of the opinion that this would be valid; the feat states that it allows you to qualify for another feat with chaotic as a prerequisite. Whether or not you can extend the logic all the way to qualifying to take levels in a class is entirely interpretation. |
| runestar04-19-07, 10:51 PM | Finally took a look at the feat. You cannot be chaotic, but are treated as chaotic for purposes of interaction with effects. The wording is very vague, but a fairly literal interpretation would allow you to start off as a monk, then multiclass into a barb without having to go through the rp aspect. Which is useless, since you can't go back to monk, and unlike a lawful bab, a chaotic monk still retains all his class features. :( |
| Tectorman04-20-07, 11:08 AM | Chaos Monk, 'nuff said. |
| docter357804-20-07, 01:23 PM | all you got to do is take one lvl of Druid Variant: Druidic Avenger. you get rage. check it out http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#druidVariant DruidicAvenger |
| Enderlaand04-20-07, 01:41 PM | That's not really what the player's looking for I think. Also, what's the fluff for a chaotic monk? That just doesn't jive with me at all. |
| JulesCARV04-20-07, 09:24 PM | Fluff-wise, a chaotic monk makes perfect sense to me. You're basically an ass-kicking, mystical. unarmed martial artist -- who is chaotic. I honestly don't think you need more explanation than that. |
| Scribbler04-20-07, 11:58 PM | Which is useless, since you can't go back to monk, and unlike a lawful bab, a chaotic monk still retains all his class features. :( But the OP is talking about a gestalt character who wouldn't stop taking monk levels. A monk//fighter/barb. It is possible to get the rage ability without barbarian levels though, if a raging monk is what you want. The half-orc paragon (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/racialParagonClasses.htm#halfOrcParagon) class gets rage at 2nd level with no alignment restrictions. Race restriction though (obviously). |
| Longarms04-21-07, 04:24 PM | "Also, what's the fluff for a chaotic monk? That just doesn't jive with me at all." Without applying my outside notions of what a monk was in real life, I don't have much understanding of what a monk is supposed to be in D&D. Sticking to the PHB description, its pretty shallow. It seems that a monk lives in a monastary and trains for his own "perfection." The monks in the monastary then apply their training to pursue their alignment goals. There really isn't much more than that without a non-core supplement. Not much there that warrants treating a monk as any more than an adventurer that uses the sweet science instead of a sword. For a monk that leaves the monastary and no longer practices his little social hierarchy, I can imagine that he might take up the lifestyle and attitude of a barbarian while still retaining his combat training. |
| PhaedrusXY04-01-08, 08:53 PM | Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I found this with a google search, and what I have to ask is on-topic. So, I have a character that started out as a barbarian/frenzied berzerker, but I'd like to change his alignment to lawful for RP reasons. (This is actually a deity for the Iron Siege thread, if anyone wants to know.) Of course, I'd like him to not lose Rage and Frenzy, since quite alot of his feats and class levels are invested in them. Would this feat let me do that? Also, does it have any prereqs? |
