| Chloride07-06-07, 12:01 AM | I was trying to make a gish build, and I was looking at the Spellsword. I saw how he takes away arcane spell failure, but it almost seems pointless. If you took one level of fighter, and one level of wizard, then took the Battle Caster feat, would that basically mean all types of armor do not have arcane spell failure? |
| Salla07-06-07, 12:10 AM | You do not qualify for Battle Caster with that arrangement, as you have no classes that grant you the ability to cast spells in armor without arcane spell failure. |

If you take 3 levels of Spellsword (which gives you +3 BAB, 2 caster levels, and a bonus feat), you will get the ability to ignore 15% of arcane spell failure. This is nice in that you can cast in twilight mithril fullplate (only 14,500 gp) with 0% ASF. The way it works is fullplate has 35% ASF, -10% for mithril, and -10% for twilight (a +1 enchantment found in PHBII and BoED). I don't think it's pointless. ;) I usually include 3 levels of Spellsword in every gish build I try (with the exception of Paladin/Battle Sorcerer). The first 3 levels of Spellsword are in every way superior the the first 3 levels of Eldritch Knight. I only use Eldritch Knight as filler to get to 20th level. Abjurant Champion is also a good one to take (as 5 levels of it are superior to 5 levels in about any other gish PrC). |
