Blindsense? Blindsight? [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-08-07, 12:30 AM I'm thinking about making a ranger who'll go into the beastmaster PrC, and I wanted to make this ranger blind, and uses his hawk animal companion as his 'eyes'. is there a blindsight feat, or see through an animal's eyes type of feat or spell that someone could get? Any help would be appreciated!

12-08-07, 01:05 AM Blind Sight is a powerful ability. Feat-wise, I can only think of a select few that grant it. The first that comes to mind is Martial Study/Martial Stance to gain the Hear the Air stance. Everything else is far to limited for a PC to use reliably.

12-08-07, 08:58 AM Dragon's Eye Amulet (MIC 95) gives you Blindsense 30ft.
Subtracting the +10 competence bonus on search and spot leaves you with an item costing 35000gp. This might give you an idea about how much Blindsense is worth. There are som ways to get it of course. The two easiest ways are as mentioned martial study and Scout lvl 10 (fits well with Ranger, especially if you take Swift hunter from Complete Scoundrel) for Blindsense 30ft and Scout 20 for Blindsight 30ft.

hidden talent allows you to take a psionic power and there is a power that lets you "see" with sound.

I think the movie you are thinking about is called Beastmaster, with Marc Singer as the leading actor. He can communicate with and control animals. His 'friends' that stay with him are a hawk for his eyes, black panther for his strength and 2 ferrets that are good for getting into places (as well as pocketing items like a couple of kenders.)

There is also Drizzt's old friend from when he first came to the surface, a blind ranger. He was an excellent shot with his bow, cause his owl would hoot when above a target and he would aim to the sound of the hoot. I think his name was Murcurio or something.

BLINDSIGHT,5-FT.RADIUS [GENERAL]
Prerequisites: Base attack bonus +4, Blind-Fight, Wisdom 19.

Benefit: Using senses such as acute hearing and sensitivity to vibrations, you detect the location of opponents who are no more than 5 feet away from you. Invisibility and darkness are irrelevant, though it you discern incorporeal beings.

12-09-07, 02:46 PM There is a Blindfold in Magic Item Compendium that makes you blind..but gives you Blindsight 30ft for 9K Gold. I thought it might make an interesting item to add to a PC as an ability that takes up the eye slot as a mechanical solution.
