Under the cleric class description in the PHB, it lists celestial, infernal and abyssal as bonus languages, and the dwarf entry also lists several "bonus" languages. are those bonus languages available only if you have enough intelligence to get them? if so, I dont think they are named very well. my group, for whatever reason, has been assuming that if your race/class lists bonus languages, they get them all. how wrong are we?

More wrong than a Undead Mindflayer Druid.

You get a number of Bonus Languages equal to your Int Modifier, they are restricted by your race and class to the ones listed.

You get to pick a number of languages from your bonus list equal to your Int Bonus. By contrast, you get all of your Automatic Languages for free. That's the difference between Automatic and Bonus Languages.

That is my new favorite band name! :D

Thanks for the correction, I thought that's how it is supposed to work. Another (silly?) question then- I get one bonus language from the dwarven list, and one bonus from the cleric list with my 12 Int, right?

No. No you do not.

Those you get as a cleric are merely more that you have to choose from. It doesn't give you higher effective intelligence.
