Hello all,
I am playing a Thri-Kreen in an upcoming game, and I was wondering if anyone knew all the bonuses I would get for having four arms as opposed to just two. I found that I recieve a +4 on grapple checks, (like the pair of extra cybernetic arms in the Cyberscape book). But I was wondering how else this would affect skills and other checks. I figure I would get some type of bonus on certain checks (such as climb for example), but I don't know if there is anything written to this effect. I have also read about the possibility of using all four arms to gain 2.5X STR modifier to damage with the proper weapon. (+1 str main arm, +.5 str X3 for 3 offhand arms).

Also, interesting fact: According to the Rules Compendium, you gain a +4 on jump checks for every 10ft above 30ft your base speed is. So... a Thri-Kreen with is +30 racial bonus gains another +4 because of their speed. +34 on jump checks at first level, pretty nice. Anyway, I digress, If anyone knows of some nice bonuses a Thri-Kreen would recieve to skills and other checks because of his four arms, plz let me know!
Thanks,
Chase

I'm pretty certain that you don't gain any bonuses on skill checks for multiple arms. Where did you hear about dealing 2.5 damage if you use all your hands to hold one weapon, and about the bonus on grapple? All I can really suggest is Multi Weapon Fighting, and say that a DM might allow a +2-+4 bonus against disarm checks for each additional hand beyond the first two holding a weapon. Still, that thing about the bonus on Disarm is only a houserule, and by no means official, as far as I know. By the way, it's considered bad form to bump your thread without a full day having passed since last post, I think it's actually preferred to wait two days.

The cybernetic enhancement that grants you an extra pair of arms gave a +4 bonus to grapple, which I would think stands to reason that a creature with four arms would recieve a similar bonus. I asked my D.M and he thought it was appropriate. I read the 2.5 multiplier on the forums and I believe it is mentioned in the savage species book. I would prowl that book for material, but it is at my townhouse and alas I am home for thanksgiving. I was also thinking the same on disarm checks because of the bonus granted by holding the weapon with two hands.... Sorry about the bump! :P

Maybe I can come up with a house rule on the climb checks.... if anyone else has any ideas/input feel free :D!

1) I found that I recieve a +4 on grapple checks,
2) using all four arms to gain 2.5X STR modifier to damage
3) you gain a +4 on jump checks for every 10ft above 30ft your base speed is.

1) No, you don't get +4 to Grapple for multiple arms. EPH p213

2) No, you don't get 2.5 STR on any weapon. EPH p213
If you had a weapon designed for 4 hands it would deal 2.5 times, but requires the DM create a "weapon designed for 4 hands" for you to use. In other words, DM fiat. SS p42

3) Yes, you get +4 from 40 move. PHB p77

As for other bonuses. The only other bonus you get is +4 Hide checks in sandy or arid settings.

I don't have access to the EPH right now, what was on p213? The reasoning we had is when you recieve an extra pair of arms from a cybernetic, you gain a +4 to grapple checks, even though the arms are of comperable strength. My D.M agreed that it would give a bonus...

Once again, what is on p213 of the the Expanded Psionics handbook? I talked with my DM and since the Gythka has a long shaft between the two weapons, if I use it as a single ended weapon I can use all four arms. It being a Thrikreen weapon he thought this was reasonable. Also, what is on SS p42? I don't have any of my books here with me :P

I'm actually surprised he has been so obliging with me, because he is very by the book; but in my defense most of these things seem logical/reasonable.

For a comparison, the Marilith is a 6 armed demon in the SRD, and they get no bonus on grapple checks for having 6 arms. So, I'd say you shouldn't get a bonus for having 4 arms.

The climb skill doesn't say anything about a bonus to climb for multiple arms, but it does say you need both hands free, so, with multiple arms you could possibly climb with 2 and have the others free to fight, cast spells, etc.

1) EPH 213 is Tru-Kreen as characters. It doesn't matter what something mechanical in D20 Modern does. In 3.5 D&D, there are no rules anywhere for a bonus to grapple from multiple arms and it doesn't make sense to add them.

2) If you are granted 2.5 Str on a standard Tri-Kreen weapon, then you gain something no other Tri-Kreen has. SS p42 talks about allowing multi armed creatures more Str bonus on weapons designed for 3 or more arms. A Gythka isn't designed for 3 or more arms. A Club was mentioned as a possible weapon that could be considered designed for 3 or more arms. Otherwise it is DM fiat.

Let's just all just say it very clearly, so that there is no room for misunderstanding: if you are playing as a nonstandard race, then you get ONLY the bonuses that your stat block specifically says you get. I agree with another poster, who says that it doesn't matter what D20 Modern says, those are items that were made that will grant you the bonus. You don't get the bonus for having 4 arms, you get the bonus because the item grants you that bonus.

Cool Beans, thanks for the advice! I think I am just going to have the gythka be specially made so the space between it's heads is a little longer leaving room for all four hands if I indtend to use it in that manner. I do usually agree with you on the if you are playing as a nonstandard race, then you get ONLY the bonuses that your stat block specifically says you get., the only reason I go beyond this is with the thing I found with the extra jump bonus for the thrikreen's base speed. I was just hoping I would come across something else like that :D. If anyone ever comes across anything thing similar to that, feel free to input! :)

That is just it, there isn't anything else to find. Look at the Tri_Kreen as characters section and then a stat block. You will find nothing else. The Jump bonus is standard (it is in the stat block), but since the speed you have could change (like 1 level of barbarian) so they can't overtly add it. They must depend on you knowing about it.
