I am focusing on being an archer character, and would like to maximize my number of bow shots per round. I currently have (Point Blank Shot of course because it is a prerequisite), but Many Shot and Rapid Shot are the two that have me stumped. We are all having trouble figuring how to combine the attack bonus penalties for shooting multiple arrows when combining the two feats. Can anyone help? Also any tips great feats and kills for making a top notch archer would be appreciated as well. The main question is that Many Shot / Rapid Shot combo though.

You can't combine the two - they work in different situations.

Rapid shot allows you to make an extra ranged attack during a full attack. It's a separate attack roll. It's only useable during the full-attack action.

Manyshot allows you to fire multiple arrows at one target all on one attack roll as a standard action. But if you miss that one roll, they all miss.

If you're using a full-attack to take advantage of rapid shot, you don't have a standard action available to use manyshot. If you used a standard action to take a manyshot, you can't make a full attack that round to be eligible for rapid shot.

You use rapid shot if you don't need to move on your turn.

You use manyshot if somebody's running at you and you need to get out of the way or you need your move action for doing something else.

You might be able to use haste or some magic item to get enough actions on your turn to do both, but right at the moment I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

If you're feat-starved, don't bother with Manyshot. Just save up for a Splitting Bow. There's no penalty, and you don't have to burn a feat. Speed is nice too.

sweet!, what is a splitting bow! I havn't heard of that?

Oh rats, I can't use a full attack to make an extra attack per round using Rapid Shot, but be firing two arrows per attack because of Many Shot?

so what do you think is the best feet combo for getting the most out of an archer character?

Thanks again!

Longbow of Speed and Rapid Shot and a good BAB is about the best you can do.

I suppose Splitting would help., but I don't have access its stats.

Im working on a rogue sniper with greater manyshot and good hiding as his premise for shooting people. So I rate that feat.
Limited range I know, but getting a few high dmg sneaks each round seems like fun to me :)

I like Spring Attack, take Dodge and Mobility first. Let's you move before and after attacking. Tumble is an awesome skill to pump up, particularly if you have some Rogue for extra damage. Just take every other arrow feat available to you.

And I must say that, IMHO, Arcane Archer is the bestest prestige class out there.

With the exclusion of emoticons, I can only assume you are serious. Which begs the question: You can't be serious?

Despite the lack of emoticons, the use of "bestest" has me skeptical.

2 feats that I like are Far shot which extend range and and Readied shot (from HoB) if u have range and your taking out a target u can hold for 1 round and then fire off your arrow applying the increased range for atk mods and if you hit then the readied shot since you held and aimed at the target for 1 round gives you an extra 3d6 of dmg on your arrows dmg.. this also stacks and works nicely if your a decent lvl cleric and can cast devine power and righteous(sp) might as buffs

Thats only if your charging you though.
Not a good position to be in, archers generally want to be more than 15ft from the foe *unless youre a sneaker/hider*

Can anybody remember what book the Exit Wounds enchantment is from? If you can maneuver yourself so that you have multiple enemies in a line, it's like having a bazillion attacks.
