| spikevampire05-30-07, 05:39 PM | Topic. Can a character with 5 / silver damage reduction hit with his natural attack or unarmed strike overlap other silver damage reductions? Thanks a lot |
| jadehawk05-30-07, 05:51 PM | do you mean that a character with a certain damage reduction can bypass that damage reduction of other targets? If so, not automatically. However, a number of creatures with damage reduction (particularly DR/magic) also have it indicated that their natural attacks bypass that DR. So, it only bypasses that DR only if it explicitly indicates it in the description. Excuse me if I missed the point of your question. |
| Neutronium_Dragon05-30-07, 05:52 PM | Your question is a bit unclear, but it looks like you're wondering whether the natural weapons of a creature with DR/silver count as silver for the purpose of bypassing other creatures' DR. The answer is that no, they don't. A creature with DR/Magic or DR/Epic counts its natural weapons as that, but other DR types don't. (Many creatures with DR/Alignment also have an alignment subtype, and an alignment subtype allows you to bypass some alignment-based DR, but in absence of that subtype simply having DR/Alignment doesn't allow it.) This is described in the back of the MM in the section on Damage Reduction. There *are* feats which allow a creature's natural attack to be treated as being made of a given type of material for bypassing DR. Some are specific to particular types of characters (such as the Tracery feats for warforged), but others are more general (such as Silver Fang in Champions of Valor). |
| spikevampire05-30-07, 06:02 PM | sorry for my worse than ever english, but i am italian. yes, you both find the true question sealed behind my wrong words (i mean overcome, not overlap). and you both answer me in the way i hope, thanks. Only another question how can i find the warforged feat? and if i don't ask a lot can you wrote me? (i could not have the book...) bye |
| Neutronium_Dragon05-30-07, 06:28 PM | The warforged feats aren't open content so I can't copy them here. However, they're found in Races of Eberron (but only help if the character is a warforged). On the other hand, Silver Fang could readily be adapted to other DR/material types, since it doesn't depend on the creature's type. (In fact, in the original source it's a common feat among some groups of lycanthropes who use it to fight other lycanthropes.) |
