Can devour Magic be used to Counterspell? [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-28-07, 05:24 PM My DM and i were at a loss to find an answer to this question; Can the warlock invocation Devour magic which acts as greater dispel, be used to counterspell? We couldnt decide whether or not it qualified being that it acts as greater dispel, but is a spell like ability and not an actual spell.

07-28-07, 05:40 PM No, it cannot. Devour Magic is a targeted Greater Dispel Magic, which is a specific use of Dispel Magic. Counterspell and Area Dispel are the two other uses and Devour Magic does neither of them.

07-28-07, 10:38 PM Also, according to the MM, spell-like abilities cannot be counterspelled, nor may they be used to counterspell.
