Can you deliver a Smiting Spell on the round the spell is cast? [Archive] - Wizards Community

Can you deliver a smiting spell on the round the spell is cast or do you have to wait until the next round?

I'm asking because you can deliver a touch spell on the round it's cast so I figured that maybe you could do it with a weapon.

05-26-07, 08:51 AM If the spell in question is Smiting Spell-ed and Quicken-ed, then yes.
Otherwise, it takes a standard action to cast metamagic for prepared casters, and a full-round for spontaneous casters.
So no.

05-26-07, 09:50 AM Even though you can normally deliver a touch spell on the round you cast it, a smiting spell isn't a touch spell... the target becomes the weapon. To discharge it you need to attack with the weapon which takes another action.

05-26-07, 05:48 PM Well, since you can cast other spells before discharging the smiting one, it's not so bad. If you know a fight is coming, you can charge up your weapon. A duskblade could get off three spells in a round that way... a quickened spell as a swift action, a channeled spell as a standard action, and a smiting spell that goes off with the attack.

But if you don't have time to prepare, it's not as nice.

A duskblade could get off three spells in a round that way... a quickened spell as a swift action, a channeled spell as a standard action, and a smiting spell that goes off with the attack.

But if you don't have time to prepare, it's not as nice.

Considering it's a lot harder to make a melee attack than a melee touch attack, I wonder who would ever use the feat :D.

05-26-07, 08:39 PM Duskblades, bards, eldricht knights, swordsages, et al. In other words, any gish. There are many ways to get a high BAB and lots of spells.

And ranged weapons.
Good for spike damage, where you have stuff like spell-storing, spell-channeling etc...
