| Gnomemaster05-01-07, 04:46 PM | Is there any kind of feat or ability that lets you switch domains mid game? I'm thinking about a feat or something similar that lets you switch domains at the beginning of the day. let me know please! |
| tarkin05-01-07, 04:53 PM | Hm. That sounds like a reasonable feat, to trade one Domain for another. I would allow it as a feat, but I don't know of an existing one. |
| Gnomemaster05-01-07, 04:57 PM | for my campaign I have a religion based upon making up gods. I want a cleric of this random chaos religion to always have access to a single alignment domain (Law, Chaos, Good, Evil) and then each day he decides who he is praying to (like Geriskan, god of wishing-wells) then he can choose to have access to the luck domain. It always has to be a single thing and something obscure (Horses, wishing-wells, front doorsteps, fir trees, oil pastels, weapons that have wood on them, etc.) |
| Banatine05-01-07, 05:02 PM | If you have PHB2, there are options for rebuilting class abilities of characters. i.e., changing specialised schools for wizards, combat styles for rangers and surprise surprise, domains for clerics. I think it costs in the region of 500gp per class ability (domain in this case) and about 50 days worth of retraining time. I dont have the book at hand though, so i can't be certain. |
| Gnomemaster05-01-07, 05:04 PM | I guess my question is "Would being able to switch one domain at the beginning of the day unbalanced?" If it is, how much would a player have to pay? A feat? money? or should it be free? |
| tarkin05-01-07, 05:18 PM | Definitely not free. I could see money doing it, but we are talking a substantial sum. A feat should be able to let you change it once per day, at the begining of the day, to any other of the specific Domains that your God has but you don't normally have |
| Gnomemaster05-01-07, 05:27 PM | see, The halflings dont worship actual deities, they worship the Infinite Pantheon which is made up of gods that are all made up. Example : Teblek Halfling Cleric 2 Teblek: By the hairy fists of Hurik! DM: Who's Hurik? Teblek: God of bar fights of course! DM: Of course, i thought you were a follower of Beranta, goddess of Dancing? Teblek: Yea, but I changed my mind. Today I'm a loyal servant of Hurik, master of drunken brawls. I want the Strength Domain today. DM: OK... and tomorrow? Teblek: Who knows? On with the fight! That's how I picture it. Now, when making up a Cleric, you'll have to choose One alignment domain (Law, Good, Chaos, Evil) which is permanent. You can pick any other domain that fits with your deity for that day. I'm thinking about making it an alternate class ability. You loose another Cleric ability for that. If I were to Meta-game the idea, we have the belief system of the Infinite Pantheon, and each individual "God" really is a splinter of that system with only one Domain or two Domains available. |
| Gnomemaster05-01-07, 05:28 PM | What if for sacrificing 250gp you could change domains? |
| Spellfire_junkie05-01-07, 05:40 PM | For what you are wanting to do, I would say that it would be rediculous for the character to have to pay money to re-learn the domains in question. A feat would seem like the obvious choice, unless of course, this would be a race-specific ability, like a racial substitution level. Am I to understand that this is for Halflings only? If so, just adjust the ability to turn undead, so that for example, he turns undead as a paladin, not receiving the ability until 4th level. |
| Gnomemaster05-01-07, 05:41 PM | how would I write that up properly? |
| Another Gnome05-01-07, 05:44 PM | Simply get an atonement. Switching domains seems to me a fairly similar process to shifting alignment. |
| Gnomemaster05-01-07, 05:45 PM | it needs to be fairly simple I like the idea of not turning as many undead for the reward of complete randomness. |
| TheGogmagog05-02-07, 12:40 PM | It's a neat concept. To keep it somewhat in check, I'd make that a domain power to select spells of any ONE domain. So they wouldn't have luck's domain power to re-roll, but could select spells from either thier alignment or the luck domain that day. It would be limited to one domain slot, so they can't select a one spell from the sun domain, one from the animal domain, and one from the fire domain in the same day. It allows a lot of randomness, but keeps it in check by not including the domain powers. It might present other issues with acess to 'anyspell, Identify' or some other specific domain spells. HALFLING DOMAIN (OR INFINITE PANTHEON DOMAIN) Granted Powers: At the begin of each day when preparing spells, the cleric may use the bonus domain slot to prepare the spells of any one domain as if it was on his spell list. These spells are not considered as class spells for activation of spell completion items.* This granted power is a supernatural ability. Spell list (Varies) *I'm not 100% sure domain spells ever count as on your class spell list, but that would be DM's call. I suspect most do consider domain spells as class spells in spite of the somatic difference. |
