For example, Fergus the Abjurer wants to become an Eldritch Knight, because he's strong and smart! He has all the prerequisites, but when it comes time for him to allocate his skill points, he's confused! He has...I'm gonna say ten points in Decipher Script, which we all know is a class skill for both Wizards and Eldritch Knights. Do his Wizard and Eldritch Knight Levels ( in this case, 7 and 1 ) stack for purposes of determining maximum class ranks, or does he have to use cross-class skill progression to bring up his Decipher Script ranks? I'm pretty sure this was covered in the PHB or something... EDIT: Also, not sure as to where this goes, so I put it in the Skills and Feats forum. |
| Kouk06-06-07, 04:07 AM | Because Decipher Script is still a class skill, it still only costs 1 point to raise 1 rank. His maximum ranks for all class skills (they just have had to be class skills at one point during his career, even if it was only one level) is his total character level +3. The maximums are always the same, but training costs is what can change. The Eldritch Knight does not have ALL knowledge skills as class skills, only some of them. If as a wizard the character trained Knowledge (The Planes) a few ranks, and now he is an Eldritch Knight and wants to train it again, it now costs 2 skill points to get one rank, though the maximum is still his total character levels +3 because once-upon-a-time it was a class skill when he trained it as a wizard. It was different and more complicated in past editions, but not now. |

BIG HUG. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/m00gl3/TigerHug.jpg) Thank you so much for clarifying that. Now that the question's been answered, I guess you guys can SAGE this to the bottom of the page or the forum staff can lock it or whatever. |
