| Ezram08-17-07, 09:30 PM | How, if at all, do these two skills work together? PCs have to climb up a structure, but also have to move quietly due to the echoes that can be heard by sentries below. Any ideas? |
| Mojo_Rat08-17-07, 10:02 PM | You would Climb again at half the speed you normally climb at since both climb and move silently reduce your speed. |
| Orville_Oaksong08-18-07, 12:08 AM | Since both skills half your speed, you would climb silently at 1/4 your base speed. Other than that, it would work pretty normally. You could make it more challenging by increasing the climb DC, because you have to be a good climber to start with to climb silently. If this DC is passed, the character would then use move silently, if not, the character climbs at a normal noise level. The second part is just an idea. |
| Kouk08-18-07, 03:50 AM | It works fine. Climbing is part of movement, and Move Silently affects movement. To minimize penalties though, I would think you would need to move at 1/4 speed. Or get a Scroll of Levitate. |
| NeueRegel08-18-07, 09:57 AM | I would also include in this strategy, a clause, "don't fall". Falling is usually noisy, and it gives the guards below a spot check too if you land on their head. Neue |
| Shadowfax708-18-07, 11:26 AM | Climbing is already done at 1/4 speed, thus to climb silently you would need to move at 1/8 speed. You could do an accelerated climb at a -5 penalty to your Climb check or move more than 1/2 speed silently at a -5 penalty to your Move Silently check. Either way each move requires 2 checks, 1 Climb check and 1 Move Silently check (unless able to take 10). |
| 1 ton ghost08-18-07, 01:10 PM | logically deduced. you can go more than your 1/2 move on a sneak roll but it's a -5 to hide/MS. speeding up your climb check might affect this as well, but it's pretty formulaic and simple enough. alot of ppl would argue Spider Climb changing stealth but it only provides a +8 (i think) to climb. |
| imakuni6708-18-07, 01:25 PM | Still, the circumstances of what you are climbing come into effect as well. It doesn't matter how quiet you are trying to be or how slow you are climbing say a rock cliff...eventually parts will break off. |
