It has been a round since I used it. Or is it really better worded "turns without using it"? 2) When you accept extra rounds of recharging (the Special rule) with Clinging Breath from Draconomicon, do the 3rd round and beyond deal half of the previous or half of the initial? If it is initial, isn't taking on 10 or 20 rounds of it a little cheesy? For no extra actions I'm getting 1/2 my breath every turn on my target? Evasion and resistance obviously throw a monkey wrench in this, but barring those, if you are just fighting one or a small group, why not just use it for about +10 rounds of half damage? I'll get an extra 5 times my breath damage over 10 turns for no extra effort on my part? And the victim has to use a full round action to have a chance of ending it? What am i missing? I guess in large groups that are spread out it is not worth it. The errata says: The Clinging Breath feat (Draconomicon, page 67) states it can be applied multiple times to the same breath weapon, and each time it increases the duration of the breath by 1 round. How does this affect the time until the dragon breathes again? Does the dragon have to take the feat more than once for this to work? A dragon with Clinging Breath can choose for its breath weapon to cling for 1 or more rounds after it is used. This number must be chosen at the time the breath weapon is used. Each round of clinging damage adds +1 to the number of rounds the dragon must wait before using the breath weapon again. For example, a dragon that chose for its breath weapon to cling for 3 rounds would roll 1d4+3 to determine the number of rounds it must wait before breathing again. The dragon need not take the feat more than once to add more than 1 round of clinging damage. In fact, it’s not possible to take the feat more than once (a standard rule for feats unless stated otherwise). |
| DS05-20-07, 02:48 PM | 1) It's pretty much "turns without using it." 2) You are limited by how many times you've taken the Clinging Breath Feat. So theoretically you could have a breath weapon cling for 10 rounds, if you've taken the Clinging Breath Feat 10 times. The damage is half the initial every round. |

See the Errata quote I put in the post. |
| Daeva05-20-07, 08:33 PM | If you roll a 1 you can use it again the next round, its number of complete rounds passed when its your turn agian you cna use it again becuae a full round has passed. |
| UnknownMourner05-20-07, 08:59 PM | That's how I read it too. So when DMs roll a 1 they blast the party again next turn? |
| Daeva05-21-07, 03:58 AM | yes, yes they do, fun huh? |
| lonewolf14706-07-07, 07:15 PM | That is not correct. See the Errata quote I put in the post. Where is this errata located officially? I checked the WOTC errata page and they have nothing listed for the Dracocomicon. Granted, the errata makes the Clinging Breath feat much more fun (rubs hands together) but all I can find is the original feat description in Drac. |
| cwslyclgh06-07-07, 07:30 PM | from the way it is listed in the quote above it actually looks more like a FAQ entry then actual errata. 2) You are limited by how many times you've taken the Clinging Breath Feat. So theoretically you could have a breath weapon cling for 10 rounds, if you've taken the Clinging Breath Feat 10 times. The damage is half the initial every round.you can never take afeat more then once unless the feat specifically says that you can do so, clinging breath doesn't say that you can anyplace in its text, so you can't. how applying it (and other metabreath feats) multiple times to the same breath weapon works (same basic explanation as is listed above) can be found in the section on Metabreath feats on page 66. |
