| Alxdude03-17-08, 01:18 AM | this feat is from XPH or srd Cloak Dance [General] You are skilled at using optical tricks to make yourself seem to be where you are not. Prerequisites Hide 10 ranks, Perform (dance) 2 ranks. Benefit You can take a move action to obscure your exact position. Until your next turn, you have concealment. Alternatively, you can take a full-round action to entirely obscure your exact position. Until your next action, you have total concealment. This feat seems pretty cool at first, or at least unique. But really it isn't clear exactly how it functions. You have concealment, but it doesn't at all make the nature of this concealment clear. As far as I can tell, you are still fully visible, yet for some reason can't be seen??? So what can this feat do other than the miss chance? Can you make a hide check without any other form of concealment? Even if being observed? What if you use bluff? Are you untargetable by spells or other things that require line of sight? Do opponents know what square you occupy if you move (5-foot step or get teleported, or something) after gaining total concealment? What other benefits might using this feat give you? It seems like there is something missing in this feat's description. |
| herrdoktor03-17-08, 01:39 AM | concealment isn't "nyah nyah can't see me." it's "i'm a wee bit obscured." (concealment gives 20% miss chance. maybe you thought the term meant something else?) (total concealment, incidentally, is 50% miss chance) edit: dirty, dirty lies about where the definitions are - they're on p.152 of the PHB |
| tyrecian03-17-08, 02:00 AM | This sounds like a way in which to offer hide in plain sight to a PC that is able to use it. Odd that it wouls also incorporate hide in its requisites... |
| foxtail03-17-08, 08:55 AM | RAW, you could use the feat naked, but I think the intended meaning is that you use the swirling of a cloak or other distraction to mislead assailants into striking where you're not. Sort of like the displacement spell. |
| Belkar03-17-08, 08:56 AM | I think you're over-thinking the feat. Literally, it's fluttering your cloak about you in a practiced way to make your vital areas less discernable. In other words - concealment. A 20% miss chance. For one round. [shrug] It's nifty, but semi useful. I could save your butt in a jam, though, perhaps if you were trapped without escape and needed to help your survivability. |

(total concealment, incidentally, is 50% miss chance) That would seem logical, except in phb "total concealment" is defined by "having line of effect but not line of sight"... and the description for the Hide skill reads "You need cover or concealment in order to attempt a Hide check. Total cover or total concealment usually (but not always; see Special, below) obviates the need for a Hide check, since nothing can see you anyway." (the "see special" thing is never actually resolved) Sort of like the displacement spell. Well the thing is the displacement spell says that "unlike actual total concealment, displacement does not prevent enemies from targetting the creature normally" |
| Scion of Coldshard03-17-08, 02:09 PM | Since it is a bit difficult to ready actions outside of combat if I were to get this feat I would just walk around anywhere dangerous using it. Walking through a dungeon? Well, each round I use my move action to cloak dance and my standard action to do whatever it is I am wanting to do.. ;) If I was really worried then a full-round action each round plus a 5' movement. Woo! lol |
| McPoyo03-18-08, 09:26 AM | Except AoE type effects still blast you up pretty bad. Besides, all they've got is a 50% miss Chance. Someone, somewhere, will pass that and grapple you. |
