| Crust07-14-07, 12:57 PM | Momentum Swing (one of three tactical manuevers available with the Combat Brute feat) from Complete Warrior, page 110: To use this manuever, you must charge a foe in the first round, and you must make an attack using your Power Attack feat in the second round. The penalty you take on your attack roll must be -5 or worse. Your attacks during the second round gain a bonus equal to your attack roll penalty x1-1/2, or x3 if you're using a two-handed weapon or a one-handed weapon wielded in two hands. For instance, if you choose to take a -6 penalty on your attack roll, you can deal an extra 9 points of damage, or an extra 18 points if you're using a two-handed weapon or a one-handed weapon wielded in two hands. My question is this: does that x3 damage already take into account the two-handed weapon's x2 bonus concerning Power Attack? In other words, does momentum swing merely allow another multiplier added to the x2 for wielding a weapon in two hands? |
| SunTzuWarmaster07-14-07, 01:36 PM | No, you get an extra 50%. For 1-handers that means a 1.5, for 2-handers that means 3. |
| Crust07-14-07, 02:08 PM | So, if a PC is wielding a greataxe and takes -10 on power attack, that PC would deal 20 extra damage due to the two-handed weapon, plus an extra 30 damage from momentum swing for a total of 50 extra damage? |
| DocBeard07-14-07, 02:32 PM | No. He would deal an extra 30 damage total. (I believe, unlike many feats of this nature, there's actually an example in the feat description which spells it out.) |
| Crust07-14-07, 04:30 PM | No. He would deal an extra 30 damage total. (I believe, unlike many feats of this nature, there's actually an example in the feat description which spells it out.) That's what I thought. Thanks. ;) |
| jacobi28907-14-07, 04:38 PM | Now what if the character with Momentum Swing was a Frenzied Berserker with a two handed weapon and Supreme Power Attack? Does the SPA's 4-for-1 override MS's 3-for-1, or do they stack somehow? |
| bobothechimp07-14-07, 08:49 PM | Add in Leap Attack for even more confusing fun! |
| Genetic07-14-07, 11:39 PM | If this stacks with leap attack and supreme power attack, it'd be hilarious. What would that even be? 9:1 damage:attack roll penalty ratio? |
| Crust07-14-07, 11:39 PM | Add in Leap Attack for even more confusing fun! Indeed. The PC in question is stacking two-handed weapon, power attack, favored power attack (Com. War.), leap attack (Com. Adv.), and eventually combat brute's momentum swing maneuver (Com. War.) to get the most out of power attack. Favored enemies include undead, constructs, and evil (Stalker of Kharash from Exalted Deeds). -10 on Power Attack: Round 1: Charging... Two-handed/favored power attack/leap attack --> +40 damage. Round 2: Two-handed/favored power attack/momentum swing --> another +40 to damage. |
| Twylyght07-14-07, 11:58 PM | they stack in the same way mutipliers for to other things do. Add the multipliers togeter, then subtract the total number of multipliers past the first. Supreme PA, 2 hands. Penalty x4 Leap attack, 2 hands Penalty x3 Momentum, 2 hands Penalty x3 4 + 3 + 3 = 10 10-2 = 8 Extra damage = Penalty to hit x8 Though to get leap attack and momentum swing, your target would have to survive the first one, then move atleast 10 feet away so you can charge again. lol |
