As the title says, what would happen if i use both at the same time, is my speed reuced by 1/2 then 1/2 again or is it only reduced by one 1/2? My DM is trying to say that i cant do both at the same time or something like that.

You can move up to one-half your normal speed at no penalty. When moving at a speed greater than one-half but less than your full speed, you take a -5 penalty. Your speed modifies your Hide and Move Silently check DCs, not the the other way around. You can move at full speed and that will impose a -5 penalty to each of these two skills. Or move at half speed, with no penalty to either of the two skill checks.

And of course you can do both at the same time! Neither of these skills takes a separate action, so you can make checks for both whenever you move -- assuming you meet the requirements for Hide, naturally.Action: None. A Move Silently check is included in your movement or other activity, so it is part of another action.

Action: Usually none. Normally, you make a Hide check as part of movement, so it doesn’t take a separate action.

Hide and move silently don't actually change your speed in anyway. The way they are written, you get various penalties for moving certain speeds. For example, there is no penalty for moving "up to one-half your speed." So, as long as you move one-half your speed or less, you suffer no penalties to either and can obviously do both.

If your GM rules you can't move silently while hiding, what is the point of hiding at all? Is he assuming you're shouting wildly every step as you move from cover to cover? In other d20 games (most notably the new star wars saga and presumably 4th edition), hide and move silently are actually just one skill called "Stealth."

Cool thanks, i talked it over with him and he says it makes sense what you guys were saying (he is new to DMing clearly).

Thanks again!
