It's a skilltrick that let's you make a 'sleight of hand' check versus a 'spot' check of onlookers: if succesfull, they haven't seen you casting, with which you can avoid AoO's. That's pretty usefull.(there's a skill use in Races of Stone that let's you make a SoH-check versus a spot-check to avoid detection....it just doesn't take away the AoO's) I'm not proud about the fact, that until just recently I found out that you can also avoid AoO's by 'casting on the defensive' (I though it only prevented you from being disrupted, but I didn't realise it prevented AoO's too). As a Beguiler I'm maxing out 'sleight of hand' (total of 9) ánd 'concentration' (total of 10). Now, I'm questioning the usefullness of the skilltrick 'conceal spellcasting'. Am I right bout this? |

If it makes it so that people around you don't know that you are casting a spell then that could be useful in all sorts of situations, doesn't require droping down three feats for still spell, silent spell and eschew materials( although as a beguiler you get still spell and silent spell for free), doesn't raise the lvl of the spell by two which using still spell and silent spell would and doesn't increase casting time. |

Very handy if you want to charm someone in the presence of others or even in combat you can cast deeper slumber or other spells that don't have an effect that indicates where it came from. Your spells just seem to happen on their own. There are all kinds of great applications for this skill trick. Avoiding AoO's is just an extra bonus. |

You could literally blast a fireball in the middle of a street and nobody would know until suddenly things were burning. Or, more practically, you could Charm Person somebody in the middle of a diplomatic negotiation, unsuspected. |

Something that can be done casting fedensively too so: - in social situations: use SoH-skill (RoS) - in combat: use 'casting defensively' |
