Okay, I was making a 2nd level character today who was on the path to becoming a Temple Raider of Olidimara. So this character is a level one rogue/level one cleric. EAsy enough right? WRONG.

If it was once a class skill, does it remain a class skill?
What is the max ranks of a skill that is kinda in class, and then again not in the class that you just leveled up in?
Is this conundrum mentioned somewhere in the books at all?

If it was once a class skill, does it remain a class skill?Yes, although if it isn't on your current class' list, you still pay the cross-class rate in it.What is the max ranks of a skill that is kinda in class, and then again not in the class that you just leveled up in?If it's a class skill for ANY ONE of your classes, character level+3. If it's a cross-class skill for ALL of your classes, it's half of that. Is this conundrum mentioned somewhere in the books at all?Yes, but I can't find the exact quote; it should be in Multiclass Characters.

Here's how it works. Say you take 4 ranks in Open Lock as a rogue (1st level). You want to gain ranks in it again at level 2, when you gain a level of cleric. It's still a class skill for you, so you CAN get that 5th rank, but because Open Lock isn't a class skill for clerics, you have to spend 2 cleric skill points to do it. Likewise, Spellcraft was cross-class for rogues, but it's now a class skill for you, and your cleric skill points can buy it at a 1:1 ratio.

Does that clear it up?

If it was once a class skill, does it remain a class skill?Yes, but the number of skill points you must spend to increase ranks depends on the class that gave you the skill points.

What is the max ranks of a skill that is kinda in class, and then again not in the class that you just leveled up in?If it is a class skill for any of your classes, your max rank is character level + 3.

Is this conundrum mentioned somewhere in the books at all?PHB, page 59:

If a skill is a class skill for any of a multiclass character's classes, then character level determines a skill's maximum rank. (The maximum rank for a class skill is 3 + character level.)

If a skill is not a class skill for any of a multiclass character's classes, the maximum rank for that skill is one-half the maximum for a class skill.

PHB, page 60:

Skill points are spent according to the class that the multiclass character just advanced in (see Table 4–1: Skill Points per Level, page 62). Skills purchased from Table 4–2: Skills are purchased at the cost appropriate for that class.
