I am not quite sure on exactly how this feat works. It says you gain one additional spell of up to level N-1 where N is the highest spell level you can cast. It does not specify any restrictions on what kinda of spell the spell needs to be. Does that mean a Sorcerer can add a Cure Light Wounds to his spell list for example and then learn it when he gains the next level or something? Or a Wizard learn Ressurect?

You learn one new spell you would normally be able to learn.

This is good for Sorcerers and other spontaneos casters as it allows them to expand their spells known. It is much less useful for wizards but can get them a new spell if they aren't able to copy scrolls or such to gain new spells in addition to the two the gain each level.

And completely useless for casters like the warmage where their spells-known and class list are the same.

The extra spell has to be from your list, like StevenO said. No CLW for the sorc. This is clarified, by the way, in the FAQ.

So as a Beguiler, I can learn any wizard/sorcerer Enchantment/Illusion spell using this Feat? I *can* learn them naturally.

Advanced Learning adds a selected spell to your class spell list, and you automatically learn it because you know all the spells on your class spell list.

Extra Spell allows you to learn a spell that is already on your class spell list.

If you have a good Wisdom, consider Arcane Disciple instead.

My wisdom is in the shitters. I've got 8 wisdom. Not surprising really, but a bit of a shame.

My comment above is the official party line, as attested in the FAQ (where someone asked the same question but substituted "warmage" for "beguiler") but I don't actually play it that way in my games.

I houserule that the Beguiler may take the feat and use it as an extra instance of the Advanced Learning or Eclectic Learning class ability; however all restrictions on both the class ability and the Extra Spell feat must be met. (This effectively restricts the character to spells on the Sor/Wiz list and no other).

I'm not sure if it's viable, but if it is the Sand Shaper prestige class in the Sandstorm book adds about 30 spells to the class list of any character who takes 1 level in the PrC.

ETA : There's nothing that would disallow a Beguiler from taking levels in the class, but you do need a prereq feat, and your magic becomes more effective in sandy wastes. So it's very situation-specific.

There's so many spells I want. For example. It's hard to choose between Mindless Rage (Spell Comp) and Shadow Conjuration. The Shadow series gives me much more versatality, but Mindless rage is just so...fun!

*poof* <goes invisible>
*silent cast thanks to one of silence* <cast Major Image>
*more casting* <Mindless Rage on BBEG>

*profit as you watch BBEG chase after your Image, doing nothing else*
