I was reading through Cooperative Spell yesterday and I have a question:

Lets say two people cast Fireball cooperatively. The first in the initiative order readies his action to cast when the second one casts. Then they both cast and use their spell slot. The save DC and caster level checks are boosted, per the feat entry. All that makes sense, but how many Fireballs actually go off?

Is it just one? The idea that they both blow a spell slot to boost the chances it will work. Do both go off with the applied effect? I got the impression it was just one of them. Also, if just one goes off, do both casters still lose the slot?

My interpretation is that just 1 fireball goes off, which is really a waste, save for qualifying for the mage of the arcane order prc....:(

Yeah, that's the only reason I've ever considered it.

Basically, you have to blow a feat, and you have to be with other casters who have also blown a feat, and you all have to have the exact same spell prepared or otherwise available, and you have to feel that all but one of you wasting your spell slot is justified by needing that extra save DC and/or caster level check boost.

It seems like this feat would be useful in less than 1% of the time. It also seems like it could just be worked into a standard class feature. I think that if everybody needs to have the same spell memorized already, and they all have to blow a slot, the minimal DC and CL check boost are not worth needing to spend a feat too.
