This ability is obtainable at 12th level and replaces the Fighter bonus feat would normally obtain. There are too other abilites that are not prereqs. but however compliment the counter attack ability, and they are Elusive Attack, at 6th level, and Overpowering Attack at 16th. They both replace the Fighter Bonus feat at the corrisponding levels. These abilities make for a fighter that strikes once very hard on his turn and then when attacked himself, avenges with counter attacks that are also very powerful. |

Karmic Strike from Complete Warrior allows you to make an attack of opportunity against anyone who hits you. In a round when you activate the feat, you take a -4 to AC. A human Fighter can get this at 1st level. Robilar's Gambit from PHBII allows you to make an attack of opportunity against anyone who attacks you, whether they hit or miss. In a round when you activate this feat, your enemies gain a +4 to hit and damage rolls against you. Any Fighter could easily pick up this feat at 12th level. Counters are a kind of martial maneuver from Tome Of Battle. Each one can be used as an immediate action (a special kind action you can take when it isn't your turn). They can be used once per encounter, or once every few rounds, depending on how you learn them. A Fighter can learn counter maneuvers with the Martial Study feat, or by multiclassing into a class from Tome Of Battle. Counters have a wide variety of effects, such as * Making an attack roll to replace your AC * Granting DR against one attack * Making yourself a human shield for a nearby ally * Letting you quickly step away from an attacker * Letting you suddenly dash towards a ranged attacker * Replacing your AC with a Sense Motive check * Replacing a Save with a Concentration check * Letting you reroll an attack of opportunity * Redirecting a missed enemy attack against another foe The power and availability of maneuvers are measured in nine levels, like spells, but the mechanical affect of a maneuver is much more like a feat. A 2nd level Fighter can use Martial Study to learn a 1st level counter. |
