Hi everyone,

At the moment I am building a ninja for an upcomming campaign who will be using a weapon with the paralyzing ability (Player's Guide to Faerūn) and will be making a lot of coup de grace attacks.

So my question is, are there any feats to speed up the coup de grace attack, ways of avoiding the attack of opportunities from all threatening foes or any other relevant feats that would be useful?

Thanks

Death Blow, from Complete Adventurer, drops your coup de grace time to either a move or standard action (I forget which).

Your best bet is a reach weapon. That will set you up. You should be able to position yourself so that you don't suffer an AoO. Use a spiked chain, and you are in really good shape.

Use the feat listed above so you can move and make the coup de grace. You should kick some butt.

Thanks for the feedback

I'll have to look up that death blow feat. Any other ideas for avoiding the AoOs?

It's probably occurred to you already, but a judicious use of the ninja's ghost step ability will prevent AoOs from any character that can't see invisible things. Or, when you get to higher levels and can use that ability to make yourself ethereal, putting the ghost touch enhancement on your weapon will allow you use it to coup de grace enemies that are still corporeal, with even less fear of retribution.

That's actually a very common misconception. A ghost touch weapon will not let you attack creatures on the material plane while ethereal.

Complete Psionic has a weapon that works for that. Not cheap, though. 50kgp+ range.

Are ye sure aboot that? It says it works when a ghost is manifested, even though the weapon actually stays on the Ethereal plane it can attack normally with a Ghost Touch weapon. My group has an irrational fear of Ghost Touch on weapons or armour. 'The ghost can just manifest, grab the stuff and unmanifest.' Type stuff.

Actually, now that I've had a chance to research this, Rymosrac is right; according to the 3.5 FAQ, the rules make a distinction between incorporeal and ethereal. Manifested ghosts happen to be both, hence their mention in the ghost touch weapon description. But a ghost stepping ninja is only ethereal, unfortunately, not incorporeal.

Yes, I have thought about using Ghost step to avoid AoOs but that is a limited number per day:( .

I've just found the perfect feat for my ninja: Elusive Dance!! :w00t: It's in Dragon#333 and allows you to select one opponet each round who cannot make AoOs against you, and it has easy prerequisites to get.

I think I'll now have a rather nasty ninja for the upcomming campaign:plotting:

Thanks for all your imput
