The title is pretty obvious.
I have looked almost everywhere in the core books, and I have never found what skill to use to craft a poison.

My theory is that it's Craft Alchemy, since I haven't seen any Craft Poison, and also because of the logic of : if you can craft the antitoxin with Alchemy, then you can craft the toxin with Alchemy.

What's your call... or best of all : what's the RAW answer.

Oh and : have an happy new year.

Craft (poisonmaking) is detailed in the Complete Adventurer supplement. It's rules are slightly different than the "standard" craft rules. I know, it's not "Core," but it is at least "official."

Personally, I would allow anyone with Craft (poisonmaking) the chance to use that skill for creating an antitoxin instead of Craft (alchemy). In the very least I would grant an appropriate synergy bonus if someone had enough ranks in one or both. And, if they wanted to make the antitoxin "poison specific" I'd even drop the DC and price quite a bit. But those are just houserules of course.

You could, as a houserule, allow Craft (alchemy) to cover poisonmaking, dispensing with Craft (poisonmaking) entirely, but I wouldn't recommend it. Poison really is it's own monster, and folding it into alchemy doesn't feel right IMHO. Plus, given the market prices of poisons, it would take forever to craft them.

I feel that the Craft (poisonmaking) rules should have been included in the core books right from the get-go, likely somewhere in the DMG. Oh well... maybe 4.0 will have poisonmaking in the core rules (I wouldn't count on it though, WOTC makes more money on supplements that way).

Edit: BTW, the resist DCs for poisons in the DMG do not match the resist DCs found in Complete Adventurer, so you'll have to choose which ones to use. I lean more towards the later values (in CAdv), if only because I assume they were printed after more extensive playtesting.
