Where can I find rules about creating poisons and the Craft(poisonmaking) skill?

craft alchemy covers posions and is more useful.

posion use on the other hand is a class feature that allow one to use posions with out the chance of posioning themselves.

Downside of Craft(Alchemy) would be that it requires you to be a spellcaster. So you can't take it as a rogue (but you can use it if you're an assassin).

and with craft elchemy you take a -4 penalty on crafting poisons

Where does it say you can use craft (Alchemy) to make poisons, with the -4 penalty?

I think it was Song and Silence.

BoVD has the info on substituting craft (alchemy) for craft (poisonmaking).

yup what he said.. Book of Vile Darkness has alot of great stuff for those of you planning on using craft poisonmaking.

also arms and equipment guide gives a great list of poisons as well..

Books that talk about Poisons and Poison use
-DMG
-Complete Adventurer
-Underdark
-Arms and Equipment Guide
-Book of Vile Darkness
-((I Believe "Complete Scoundrel" but not 100%))

those are the ones I can think of top of my head.. if there is anymore please add it to the list.. There is a Dragon or Dungeon mag supposedly I hear that has a good write up about it as well. though I have not seen it personally. just heard about it. there is a thread here that someone says it somewhere.

Something I tried to find was where I had gotten the idea that craft (poisonmaking) would eliminate the chance of poisoning yourself.

I can't find anything stating the craft helps you use it without the chance, only the Assassin and Ninja get poison use to eliminate the chance of poisoning yourself.

Has anyone seen rules based on accidentally poisoning yourself while making poisons?

When you put 5 ranks in a skill you are considered proficient with it. I think by taking 5 ranks in craft poisonmaking you forgo the poisoning yourself chance.

With making it perhaps, but not with applying it. Or rolling a 1 on your attack roll.

Personally I'd make craft (poison) a separate skill from craft (alchemy). Alchemy already has a lot of great stuff you can make. But I'd allow a synergy with 5 ranks of craft (alchemy) to give a +2 bonus to making poisons.

IIRC rogues and blackguards gain same immunity to self poison when applying to weapon

Rogues no, blackguards and assassins yes. And yes, Complete Scoundrel does have new usually non-lethal poisons.

I would expect craft (alchemy) to cover poisons, at least that way some non-casters will have use of it  That said, I have so far used craft poisonmaking, although the alchemy -4 rule makes sense. BTW, what do you use for gathering poisonous materials, say from the glands of a killed spider? I am thinking heal, survival or knowledge (relevant).
