| docballen06-26-07, 08:02 PM | My group has been tasked to build a temple to Bahamut. I am playing a warforged who has craft: armorsmith and craft: woodworking. (These were recommended for this character to be able to repair itself since there is no Craft: Fix warforged skill.) What kinds of things does craft: woodworking allow me to do? Will I be building cabinets and large structures, or will I be putting pretty carvings on wooden doors? I'm moving rocks and helping build the walls right now. I presume that I will know how to use a saw and hammer and nails (or what ever was current tech to woodworkers in the middle ages...) (PS my character is a barbarian so he may not be as advanced as someone with profession: carpenter.) |
| Dalthbar06-26-07, 08:45 PM | Much of the crafting experience is left up to the character and DM. It's been purposely left vague as to not get bogged down in minutia that'd grind the game to a halt. I would simply treat it like this - the basic super-structure and normal crafting that'd go into a house (cabinets, floors, walls, etc.) would be the normal craft checks you'll be making. If you're adding very basic decorating, such as simple, large celtic type patterns, this wouldn't be difficult to do at all and can be assumed into the crafting process (remember, crafting is all based off of GP values, so basic decoration just increases value a bit, not the DC). If you're going to be adding very intricate, delicate and fancy decoration or using exotic woods, that's where I'd start treating those things as masterwork crafting. |

Personally I'd divide it along the lines of Carpentry for big stuff and Woodworking for little stuff, the same as it's Masonry for big stuff and Gemcutting for little stuff if you use stone, but whatever your DM decides. |
