Crafting a pearl from an Oyster...what skill? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-27-07, 08:14 PM Okay...I'm bored as anything and I'm watching basic television. There's a special on pearls and I'm wondering what skill checks would you use for crafting pearls?

Proffession? Handle Animal?

Most likely. Pearl diving covers a wide range of skills, making it a profession.

If you wanted to craft with pearls, you would want Profession(Jeweler). Their thing is for getting pearls. I doubt a Pearl Diver would do much with them.

03-27-07, 09:16 PM It takes levels in Clam to craft pearls. Now if you want to harvest them, None. You cut open the shellfish and it eather has one or not. A survival check would be good to find an area with a better yield maybe.

03-27-07, 10:26 PM It takes levels in Clam to craft pearls. Now if you want to harvest them, None. You cut open the shellfish and it eather has one or not. A survival check would be good to find an area with a better yield maybe.:D You cannot take levels in Clam.. you need to polymorphed or something I would say... Disciple of the Clam perhaps... but yeah. And it would require said character to consume the oyster first, and grind it to sandy material.

The diving portion would probably require checks for swimming and holding one's breath for the depths one has to reach, and perhaps some wilderness check to recognize potentially better hauls. But if its for NPCs, a simple profession would be simpler.

Defintiely not a Craft, even with Polymorph.
