Crafting Metamagic Magic Items [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-03-08, 09:11 PM Hey all, I think I remembered reading smoewhere but can't find it anymore.... maybe i'm wrong about it...

One of the player in my game is going to be a wizard which gonna pay lots of EXP for magic item creation.

Can a character craft a wand with a metamagic feat ???? I think no but can't find the reference...

Considering the fact, i was thinking that could be possible anyway...

let's say the character want to create a wand of Haste:

Formula : (CL x spell level x 750) x1/2 (for raw materials cost)

Non-Metamagic Wand of Haste : 5 (CL required to cast hase) x 3 (Haste spell level) x 750 = 11 250 x1/2 = 5625

Extended Wand of Haste: 7 (CL required to cast 4th spell, since Extend cost one higher spell slot) x 4 (base spell level + Extend one higher spell slot) x 750 = 21000 x 1/2 = 10500

The formula seems to work, but can that be made ????

Note : I did not took in consideration XP cost but I know it would cost more as well...

02-04-08, 06:32 AM Yes, you can make the example wand, and the cost calculation is correct.

In general characters can make items with metamagic-enhanced spells provided the item is capable of holding a spell of the adjusted level, to a maximum of a 9th level spell. Taking wands as an example, make a wand of Extended Haste, but not a wand of Extended Wall of Fire (since that would be a 5th level spell).

02-04-08, 10:54 AM I have seen somewhere (but it might have been 3.0, i don't recall) a prestige class based around crafting potions.

There's also a similar one that allows you to craft "candles" (rather than potions), up to 9th.

Am drawing a blank as to the source though :\
