| CyperionTheShadeBlade03-27-08, 01:39 PM | Am i reading this wrong when it seems that the Deflect arrows feat simply allows you to deflect an arrow per round, no need for a save or anything? |
| Legdiwena03-27-08, 02:26 PM | Yup |
| DeathlessJuan03-27-08, 02:36 PM | You are reading the feat correctly. There is no save required, just that you have a hand free, be aware of the attack and not flat-footed. Monks (or at least 2 level dip) own |
| Legdiwena03-27-08, 02:40 PM | Reflect Arrows, Infinite Deflect Arrows |
| CyperionTheShadeBlade03-27-08, 03:03 PM | So a 2nd level monk would be able to deflect an arrow fired by an epic level archer:eek: My players are going to hate it:evillaugh |
| DeathlessJuan03-27-08, 03:05 PM | Yes, but only one arrow a round. |
| Legdiwena03-27-08, 03:21 PM | Now a monk that took the epic feat could deflect every arrow. He could even deflect magic rays, think these are only once/round, not sure. |
| MAdgryphon03-27-08, 03:59 PM | There's also another epic feat called Reflect Arrows, that when you deflect an arrow, you can send it back to the peson who shot it at you, using your ranged attack bonus. |
| herrdoktor03-28-08, 12:47 AM | There's also another epic feat called Reflect Arrows, that when you deflect an arrow, you can send it back to the peson who shot it at you, using your ranged attack bonus. there's also an item in the MIC that let's you do this 3/day (gauntlets of reflection (2000gp)) exceptional deflection is my favourite of the epic feats (followed by infinite deflection) |
| drakir_nosslin03-28-08, 12:33 PM | Excellent, just what I was looking for, I'm currently doing an epic char with three epic feats, I was thinking of: Reflect Arrows Infinite Deflection Exceptional Deflection If I understand this correct, it would give me the ability to deflect any ranged attack back at the attacker an infinite number of times per round. Considering that I will focus on a hit and run tactic that would be pretty nice... |
| Baninor03-28-08, 01:31 PM | Deflect Arrows is 1 per round, because Bows are Overpowered. Full attacks every round, no need to move. |
| kamronshepard03-28-08, 07:30 PM | Deflect Arrows [General] Prerequisites Dex 13, Improved Unarmed Strike. Benefit You must have at least one hand free (holding nothing) to use this feat. Once per round when you would normally be hit with a ranged weapon, you may deflect it so that you take no damage from it. You must be aware of the attack and not flat-footed. Attempting to deflect a ranged weapon doesn’t count as an action. Unusually massive ranged weapons and ranged attacks generated by spell effects can’t be deflected. Special A monk may select Deflect Arrows as a bonus feat at 2nd level, even if she does not meet the prerequisites. A fighter may select Deflect Arrows as one of his fighter bonus feats. Snatch Arrows [General] Prerequisites Dex 15, Deflect Arrows, Improved Unarmed Strike. Benefit When using the Deflect Arrows feat you may catch the weapon instead of just deflecting it. Thrown weapons can immediately be thrown back at the original attacker (even though it isn’t your turn) or kept for later use. You must have at least one hand free (holding nothing) to use this feat. Exceptional Deflection [Epic] Prerequisites Dex 21, Wis 19, Deflect Arrows, Improved Unarmed Strike. Benefit You can deflect any ranged attacks (including spells that require ranged touch attacks) as if they were arrows. Infinite Deflection [Epic] Prerequisites Dex 25, Combat Reflexes, Deflect Arrows, Improved Unarmed Strike. Benefit You may perform any number of deflections each round, as the Deflect Arrows feat. Reflect Arrows [Epic] Prerequisites Dex 25, Deflect Arrows, Improved Unarmed Strike. Benefit When you deflect an arrow or other ranged attack, the attack is reflected back upon the attacker at your base ranged attack bonus. All out of the SRD. This should help matters. |
| DeathlessJuan03-28-08, 07:51 PM | Now, that is just evil. A monk (or monk-ish character) with all those feats, gets to return any arrow/throwing weapon/ranged touch attack ANYTHING infinite times per day, to the caster/thrower/archer AND gets evasion w/ good saves all around. My gawd. A Paladin/Monk/Sorcerer/Enlightened Fist/enter-whatever-freaking-monkish-class-you-want, will sling your own ranged touch spells back at you and dodge any reflex save spells you have, period. Who ever said monks were bad was on something... Or fighters that take the IUS (Improved Unarmed strike) tree w/deflect arrows. |
| Legdiwena03-28-08, 07:55 PM | Infinite Deflection refers to Deflect Arrows, therefore the infinite deflection is only for normal ranged weapons, not rays and other things. |
| DeathlessJuan03-28-08, 08:30 PM | Actually, no Exceptional Deflection [Epic] Prerequisites Dex 21, Wis 19, Deflect Arrows, Improved Unarmed Strike. Benefit You can deflect any ranged attacks (including spells that require ranged touch attacks) as if they were arrows. You treat any spells that require ranged touch attacks as arrows, therefore: Infinite Deflection would work with them. Exceptional Deflection improves Deflect Arrows. Infinte Deflection points back to the new and improved Deflect Arrows feat. Logic dictates = Infinite deflection of arrows = Infinite deflection of things treated as arrows |
| kamronshepard03-28-08, 10:36 PM | DeathlessJuan is right. All feats listed are part of the slightly branching IAS tree, therefore working together. |
| Legdiwena03-30-08, 01:37 PM | My bad, haven't read the feats in years. |
| fighter_mcwarrior03-30-08, 02:22 PM | Would there be any point in taking Snatch Arrows, by the way? |
| Legdiwena03-30-08, 02:57 PM | It can be useful, assuming you don't have the Dex 25 for Reflect Arrows. |
| Watsyurname52903-30-08, 03:19 PM | Would there be any point in taking Snatch Arrows, by the way? Because technically by RAW you could use Exceptional Deflection to treat spells as if they were arrows and then use Snatch Arrows to catch the spell then use it later. Then you could have your Party Wizard "attack" you with a high level ray then which you could use as an attack. Although this is becoming major munchkin cheese. |
| Legdiwena03-31-08, 01:02 PM | Since you can't normally cast spells, would you be able to hold charge on a captured ray or would you need to throw it back right away? |
