Hi folks,

can someone explain me the concept of demoralize opponent?

What good is it for on low levels if the opponent gets a -2 penalty if he fails his save. If he fails...

What good is it on high levels if I lose a fullround-attack just to give my opponent a -2 penalty. If he fails his save...

I think what you might get is worse than what you give.

Read up on the rules for how fear effects stack.

For instance, if you demoralize your opponent, and then your sorcerer buddy casts fear on him, he is frightened for one round even if he saves vs the spell. He must then flee the battle if possible, thus giving up his attacks and likely drawing one or more AoOs.

Using the Intimidate action.

I dislike it that opponents use their character level or hit dice as part of the save. That makes it considerably easier to resist. It would be nice if it lasted more than 1 round too, so that person who used it could take advantage of it in the next round. Im not going to say I think it is tactically the best maneuver.

-2 is big though. It might not do much to affect a single attack roll, but when you consider the impact it has on iterative attacks, it can be effective. Ive had enough -2s to attack rolls myself to know it can really suck. It also works on skill checks, like the Concentration check a wizard needs to make to cast defensively.

That I can recall, Ive only used this in combat once, and that rather recently. I was a low-level sorcerer, and the party tank was engaged in combat with a single opponent in a narrow hall. I couldnt maneuver to use my area attack spell without hitting the dwarf, so, in lieu of doing nothing that round, I made an Intimidate check. It worked. The opponent failed to land any hits that round (was it because of the -2? Id like to think so but dont know for sure.) and after getting hit himself, surrendered.

But that is realistically the only type of scenario where it is worthwhile: when you dont have anything better to do.

Demoralizing is a great support action. A Flanking, Demoralizing, singing bard with a reach weapon is staying out of the way and supporting like a superstar! :)

It's also amazingly easy to break intimidate to the point where you automatically make almost any creature frightened with one round. The best example combines intimidating rage(complete warrior) and intimidating strike from PHB2, along with being a half-orc and taking Menacing Brute from races of destiny. Take Menacing Demeanor for another +4 to intimidate, as well as the bonus from menacing brute. Basically, you run up and hit a guy with an intimidating strike, most probably making them shaken, and then rage to push him to frightened for as long as you rage. You just took almost ANYTHING out of the fight with 1 standard action and 1 free action. The most extreme intimidator I put together is this:

Race:Half-Orc
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

STR-15 (8)+2
DEX-14 (6)
CON-14 (6)
INT-12 (4)-2
WIS-8 (0)
CHA-12 (4)-2

Lv1(Barbarian)Iron Will
Lv2(Fighter)Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Maul)
Lv3(Fighter)Extra Rage, Weapon Focus (Maul)
Lv4(Fighter)+1 STR
Lv5(Fighter)Power Attack
Lv6(Menacing Brute)Intimidating Rage
Lv7(Exotic Weapon Master)Uncanny Blow
Lv8(Exotic Weapon Master)Show Off, +1 STR
Lv9(Menacing Brute)Skill Focus(Intimidate)
Lv10(Menacing Brute)
Lv11(Exemplar)
Lv12(Exemplar)Menacing Demeanor, +1 STR
Lv13(Exemplar)Endurance
Lv14(Bear Lord)
Lv15(Bear Lord)Persuasive

You end up with +40 to intimidate and the ability to take 10. That means even a pit fiend automaticaly becomes frightened if you want. Natural 20's don't apply because it's not an actual save, but rather a level check.

have the cleric cast doom, and then everytime someone uses this on him, he has to flee, if 2 peopel use it on him he cant fight even if cornered.

Bard & rogue yell ing at the saem time at him every round and he just sits in thecorner and cries, while the fighter cuts him down. Thanks to it being a will save for doom, and wisdom beign the modifier for intimidate, its a perfect way to destroy low wisdom thugs.
