| Jestr7607-21-07, 07:47 AM | I'm wondering if the +8 bonus given by the Destructive Rage feat from Complete Warrior applies when attempting to Sunder ? Thanks! |
| VonRichthofen07-21-07, 09:02 AM | No. |
| Kradlo07-21-07, 11:46 AM | VonRichthofen is correct ("Curse you, Red Baron!" - Snoopy), but I'll elucidate. The Destructive Rage feat (Complete Warrior, pg 97) states, "While you are in a rage or frenzy, you gain a +8 bonus on any Strength checks you make to break down doors or to break inanimate, immobile objects." The Sunder action is an attack with a slashing or bludgeoning weapon to strike a weapon or shield an opponent is holding. Table 9-12: DCs to Break or Burst Items (PHB, pg 166), and the text of Breaking Items (PHB, pg 167) cover attempts to break items by sudden force rather than by dealing damage. It is for this that Destructive Rage applies. |
| Jestr7607-21-07, 08:39 PM | Thank you. You have been most helpful in your explanation! I always (kind of) knew that they wouldn't work together, yet a part of me wanted to argue... "but a weapon is inanimate and immobille." Yet I had to try ;) |
| ShinAkuma207-21-07, 08:57 PM | "but a weapon is inanimate and immobille." Well, it's not really immobile if someone's weilding it combat. If it's just laying there on the floor, you could attempt a Str check to just, say, snap the blade in half, in which case Destructive Rage would apply. I've got no idea of what sort of DCs you're looking at, though. |
