| Panaca02-03-08, 12:00 AM | Does Divine Spell Power(CD) works with Heighten Turning(Libris Mortis), is it possible to enhance your caster level by using Heighten Turning while you are using Divine Spell Power? |
| Father Dale02-03-08, 03:17 PM | I'd say No. Heighten Turning only works "When you turn or rebuke undead..." Since you are not trying to "turn or rebuke undead' when you use Divine Spell Power, then Heighten Turning cannot be used with it. Divine Spell Power is simply using the Turning Check mechanism, it is not the same as "turning or rebuking undead." Also, even if it weren't so clear, as a DM I wouldn't let you do this. Since Heighten Turning allows you to take a penalty on 'turning damage' in exchange for a boost to the 'turning check,' the net result if used with Divine Spell Power is a complete boost for no penalty. You would simply take the maximum penalty on turning damage for maximum bonus on the turning check, since there is no use of the turning damage mechanism with Divine Spell Power. It wouldn't take too many cleric levels to get to the point where you would automatically get the full +4 boost to caster level every time you used Divine Spell Power. This would be an absurd and abusive result. |
| Panaca02-04-08, 12:54 AM | Well, thanks for the help, however, i have another question to ask, is there a feat that gives you bonuses in the turning checks, i mean like +3 in turning checks? |
| Father Dale02-04-08, 01:35 AM | Can't really think of a feat that would help, although there might be one out there. 5 ranks in Knowledge (religion) will give a +2 synergy bonus to turning checks. The domain power for the Glory domain (which is a fantastic domain anyways) gives a +2 to turning checks and +1d6 to turning damage. So with this and the 5 ranks in Knowledge (religion), plus the +3 bonus on Divine Spell Power, thats a +7 right off the bat without factoring in Charisma. Anything boosting Charisma will boost the check as well, of course. I'm not sure of any magic items off hand that boost the turning check (most will either boost your 'cleric level' or lower nearby undeads' turn resistance, or give more uses per day of turning). There very well might be one though. |
| Panaca02-04-08, 01:47 AM | Thanks, but i was looking for a feat though. |
| DebiHuman02-04-08, 02:06 AM | Improved Turning [General] Prerequisite: Ability to turn or rebuke creatures. Benefit: You turn or rebuke creatures as if you were one level higher than you are in the class that grants you the ability. Also, a consecrate spell gives you a +3 sacred bonus to turning. Debby |
| Panaca02-04-08, 02:13 AM | Strange, I havent seen anything in the consecrate spell feat description that says that you gain +3 sacred bonus to turning checks, is it from complete divine? |
| Father Dale02-04-08, 11:00 AM | Improved Turning won't help with Divine Spell Power because 'cleric level' is not a factor in determining the turning check. It would only affect turning damage and the HD of the most powerful undead able to be affected. I think consecrate is a bit iffy, the language used is "Each Charisma check made to turn undead within this area gains a +3 sacred bonus." That could very well be limited to turning checks that are used just "to turn undead." Note that it would definitely not work for 'rebuke' attempts, which would suggest that it probably wouldn't work with Divine Spell Power. Both of these are in the Players Handbook.... Really though, I've glanced through several books related to divine casters and undead and what not and haven't found a feat that would grant a bonus on turning checks. That might very well be intentional, for reasons completely unrelated to Divine Spell Power... |
