By the SRD, the rage str bonus is untyped, so it should stack just fine with an enhancement bonus from an item or spell.

Yup.Rage (Ex)

A barbarian can fly into a rage a certain number of times per day. In a rage, a barbarian temporarily gains a +4 bonus to Strength...The bonus from rage is untyped, meaning that it will stack with anything.

I think in PHB the rage is a moral bonus, but it's not in SRD, so I might have missread the PHB cause the bonus to will is a moral in both the book and SRD. Either way, it stacks.

When it comes to stacking bonuses, it's easiest to just look at the bonus' type. For example, the str from rage says a "+4 bonus" Meaning it's untyped and stacks with any str bonus not from the same source. Whereas gauntlets of ogre power give a "+2 enhancement bonus" meaning it does not stack with any other enhancement bonus to the same stat, like belt of giants strength for example.

The only named bonus with a type that will ever stack with a bonus of the same type is Dodge. In other words, Dodge bonuses stack with other dodge bonuses. Good luck getting one for str though. Although, that would be amusing, a +1 dodge bonus to str, because it makes no sense at all :P

Circumstance bonuses also stack with other circumstance bonuses, as long as it's from a seperate source.
