| Abbacabba06-15-07, 05:43 PM | Last game one of my players, a monk, was fighting a stone golem. Since he really couldn't do much he wanted to ready an action to "dodge" its next attack causing it to strike the ground.. (They were standing on a teleportation device and he wanted the golem to smash it.) Is this something achievable? Feat/Skill/??? |
| Apupunchau06-15-07, 06:19 PM | I don't know about smashing an object but there is a feat, I believe a tactical feat (although I'm sure some one will come and correct me if I'm wrong) which basically does this: If you declare dodge on a creature (and I believe fight defensive;y) you automatically dodge the attack and it will hit another opponent that threatens you. I think this feat is either in complete warrior or complete adventurer. As a DM you could adapt it so that the attack would hit an object that the player threatened. |

The first attack of the round from that opponent automatically misses (I think) and hits the flanking enemy. It also negates Power Attack bonuses (but not the penalties) from your Dodge opponent. It also does one more thing, but I can't remember what. |
| Jeriaus06-15-07, 11:34 PM | it also allows you to negate the bonus damage from PA and give you chance at a free Trip by provoking an AoO. The PA thing is VERY good. |
| Jadowman06-16-07, 06:51 AM | The feat is good, but by RAW, it doesn't allow the monk to dodge the blow and cause the attacker to hit the floor. Sure, as a DM, you can allow it, but then your allowing a character to dodge every first attack and totally ignore the needs to be flanked bit. Dodging attacks is already within the game mechanics and is known as the dodge and dex bonus to AC. Readying an action to dodge is called total defense. It gives you +4 (or +6 if you can tumble well) dodge bonus to AC. I would rule, if one of my players tried the same thing, that if the attacker missed because of the dodge AC bonus, including total defense, and the player gave a cool description of how she's doing it, then the attacker would smack the ground. |
| primemover00306-16-07, 07:32 AM | Yeah that's really not a feat, but an opportunity for you as the DM to use some creative license to describe the action fo a fight. Stone golems are mindless and it might not take much for the monk to lure the automaton towards an object he needs smashed to bits... it's just up to you to determine what it would take for the Golem to smash the teleportation device (if at all). |
