| DarkJester103-13-07, 01:30 AM | Okay, I have a few questions I wish answered if anyone can. First of all, with a Dragon Cohort, do they control themselves (Or through DM) or do I treat them like an animal companion? I.E., roll for Handle Animal Checks and also give it tricks to use? Second of all, how would one level up? Do I do it like a normal animal, or do I do it independently and treat the dragon as a seperate character and class, like it explained how to put a dragon in a party in the Draconomicon? I appreciate any help you guys can give! And I hope it wasn't too confusing for you. o.o; |

See what your dm has to say.:) As for levelling up, you use the same rules as the leadership feat. Cohorts earn XP as follows: The cohort does not count as a party member when determining the party’s XP. Divide the cohort’s level by the level of the PC with whom he or she is associated (the character with the Leadership feat who attracted the cohort). Multiply this result by the total XP awarded to the PC and add that number of experience points to the cohort’s total. If a cohort gains enough XP to bring it to a level one lower than the associated PC’s character level, the cohort does not gain the new level—its new XP total is 1 less than the amount needed attain the next level. |
| DarkJester103-13-07, 02:37 AM | Okay, so my cohort is level 13 (thanks to the dragon cohort feat), I am level 10. 13 % 10 = 1.3 Current Exp: 45,000 45,000 x 1.3 = 58,500. Dragon's level = 8 with 27,999/28,000 exp? If that's true, how do I determine how many skill points a dragon gets? Or it's stat increase? >.< It's a Very Young Bronze btw. I have a general idea but... a more thorough explanation would be appreciated. |
| runestar03-13-07, 06:51 AM | Your cohort's ECL seems a tad too high... At 10th lv, you are eligible for a cohort with a max ECL of 7. Draconic cohort raises this to 10, so the ECL of your dragon cohort should be no higher than 10. So that leaves you with just a wyrmling bronze dragon...:( So at this stage, xp allocation is quite straightforward. The cohort/your lv ratio is 1:1 (10/10), so it gets the same xp you got. However, since it will not level until you reach lv12, this means that quite a bit of xp it gets is going to be wasted. In this case, you might want to find a way to milk it of its xp for whatever purpose you can think off...:p Now, if only there was a way to allow it to contribute to item creation... If that's true, how do I determine how many skill points a dragon gets? Or it's stat increase? >.< Dragons get 6+int mod skill points every level. I am not sure how they would get stat increases. In theory, they would not get the stat increase at 8th HD since that should already have been factored into the stat modifiers they get at their next age category(at 9th HD). At least that is my understanding. Though I guess there is nothing wrong with just giving them this +1 stat increase for every 4th HD they get, over and above their stat bonuses.:) |
