in DRAGON MAGIC any body who gets heavy armor as a class skill can trade it in for this skill.
this is what one of my players asked she is right now a 3rd level sorcerer and next level wants to take a fighter so she can get the dragonscale husk skill
it least everything but arcane failure
shoudl i put it that she can have it with out havine a chance for her spells to fail
she also wants to know if braces of armor will still work with it since she grows dragon scales and not wearing any armor
thanks for any input

Bracers of Armor will not stack with this, since it states it doesn't stack with any bonus to armor (Logic would assume they meant an Armor bonus to AC).
As for ASF... RAW, there isn't one. I'm okay with that.
If you mind, then assign one, but bear in mind that it's riduculously easy to get 0% ASF with regular armor, so it's only fair you get it with this since you can't upgrade it.

I would think you could upgrade it with the Magic Vestment spell from clerics and maybe a couple others, its also reasonable to think that you can get enhancements in the armor, ala runes of power carved into it, but damn that should be uncomfortable?

The description specifically states that you can not augment the husk by any means excpet leveling up in a class that grants heavy armor profiecency.

While wearing the husk you also lose any AC enhancement from feats, special abilities or racial/innate abilites. So you loose things like dodge, moibility, natural armor (except from a magical item), ac bonuses granted from a class ability, etc.

For a fighter or gish (espeacially duskblade) the husk is great. It might be ok for a sorcerer, but that is debatable since it would not improve with the sorcerer levels.

See, that is quite silly. I have a shell, so I can't Dodge, benefit from Deflection or Wis to AC? Again, Silly.

It should simply be stated to be an Armor OR Natural Armor bonus, and be done with it. Worst case scenario, say it's both; But never say it stops my Ring of Protection from working.

The main benefit seems to be for VOP characters early on, where the AC bonus granted (roughly the equivalent of half-plate) is superior to the armour bonus VOP grants. Very nice for a dragonborn warforged.:)

Perhaps it is silly. I think it was a poor attempt to balance a very powerful ability. I know the arguement (I use to use it myself), by itself the husk is pretty well balanced. Here is the kicker though, the money you save by not buying armor can be used to buy other magical items, therby circumventing the wealth by level charts. At low levels this is only a minor effect, but at higher levels this can tip the balance a bit more.

Overall I like the husk, its a cool mechanic and nice flavor.
