| Korlall03-29-07, 02:10 PM | I jsut made a NPC Kobold character and I check this feat many times and it seem not that really good... here's what it does: 1- Change type [From Humanoid (Dragonblood, Reptilian) to Dragon (Reptilian)] 2- Scales become tinted with a color that matches that of your draconic heritage. 3- Immunity to magic sleep and paralysis effects. 4- Gain Darkvision 60 Ft and Low-Light vision. 5- +2 racial bonus on one skill (depending your dragon heritage) Let's checks now what it does in game mechanics... 1- Notting really... as Dragonblood, you were already considered Dragon for taking feats and spell effects, so that's not big deal. 2- No in game mechanics, jsut appearance 3- Cool, immunity to two effects. 4- I think tt's notting of an advantage. First, Kobold has already 60 Ft Darkvision so that mean that nothing change. Plus, it gets Low-Light vision. For me, it's a disadvantage because they got Light Sensitivity. If they see "brigth light" twice as far as human, they are likely to become dazzled more easily. 5- +2 on some one skill, it's ok. To resume the big changes: - immunity to magic sleep and paralysis - +2 on one skill - becoming more sensitive to light Did I got something wrong or this feat doesnt' really worth taking ? |
| tarkin03-29-07, 03:13 PM | You missed the big things. 1. It qualifies you for several feats that dragonblooded did not qualify you for. 2. You are no longer Humanoid, are immune to Hold Person, Dominate Person, etc. (this includes Enlarge Person/Reduce Person), spells. You can now use Alter Self to assume the form of any Dragon, not a humanoid. etc. ------- Also, low light vision does NOT increase the range you are suspectible to daylight. Lowlight vision works only in low light. Light sensitivity only works in bright light. |
| Korlall03-29-07, 03:16 PM | You missed the big thing. It also qualifies you for certain dragon only feats that dragonblooded did not qualify you for. I checked and looks like the Race of the Dragon has no "Dragon-Only" feats but jsut dragonblood/dragon feats... where you got those Dragon-only feats ? |
| tarkin03-29-07, 03:22 PM | 1. Draconomicon 2. The feat Dragon Wings in Races of the Dragon. (well, this lets you take it at 3rd leve instead of only 1st). 3. Dragon Magic (Sept 2006) |
| Tim448803-29-07, 04:46 PM | Ditto Tarkin - no longer humanoid is a BIG deal. Especially at low levels, but for the whole game. And Draconomicon has some nasty good feats for dragons. |
| MikeN03-29-07, 05:05 PM | There's always the fact that it lets you start out as Venerable with no hit to your physical stats. +3 Int, Wis, and Cha are pretty nice for a caster...:D |
| NoldorForce03-29-07, 08:36 PM | Actually, the dragonblood subtype allows you to qualify for certain things (including feats) as if you were a dragon. Rather neat. As above, the two biggest benefits of Dragonwrought are the type change to Dragon and the +3 to all mental ability scores due to a lack of aging penalties. |
| runestar03-30-07, 12:52 AM | Being a dragon also opens you up to some very choice alter self/polymorph options early on.:) |
| LordBOB77703-30-07, 12:59 AM | Im also pretty sure you qualify for Epic feats before everone else, since your Cr is -3, and epic feats are based on HD. |
| runestar03-30-07, 01:33 AM | Typically, you want a foe to have epic feats only when the PCs facing him are epic themselves. It is not so much a derivative of cr.:) However, it does seem possible for a venerable dragonwrought kobold to take epic feats from 1st lv onwards, because kobolds have age categories(as mentioned in races of dragon), so they technically count as true dragons. And the draconomicon does state that dragons of old age or more can take epic feats.:P |
| Elzaban the Ethereal03-30-07, 05:00 AM | Actually, the dragonblood subtype allows you to qualify for certain things (including feats) as if you were a dragon. Rather neat. Actually, feats is one of the things that dragonblood doesn't qualify you for. Races of the Dragon says that it lets you qualify for feats that have the subtype as a prerequisite (ie., feats that say "Prerequisites: Dragonblood"). It's Dragons that can qualify for Dragonblood feats, not the other way around (this is important, as it allows the dragonblood kobold to still apply for most of the feats in the book). By virtue of having this feat and being of the Dragon type, the kobold can then go on to take these Dragon-only feats (and prestige classes), which is the other big benefit of the type change in addition to the "no longer humanoid" one. |
| Vash_HS06-26-07, 08:59 PM | You missed the big things. 1. It qualifies you for several feats that dragonblooded did not qualify you for. ... What are the good Dragon only feat? Most of the ones I found in Draconomicon are pretty poor especially since my Kobold does not have a breath weapon. The Awaken Feats are a joke and the rest required being size Large or larger or extremely high ability scores. |
| Red_Decker06-27-07, 01:13 AM | maybe minor but Dragonwrought kobolds are no longer subject to favored enemy Humanoid(reptilian). Not sure on the gnome racial trait. Another thing, if you make him a monk or give him natural attacks he qualifies for souldrinker BoVD easier. http://www.geocities.com/customsmiliesbyswordmaster/inthered.txt |
