I've heard that tomb tainted soul gives the dread necro the ability to heal himself with his touch without limit. This sounds too good to be true... has there been a sage ruling or such on this?

It's true. However, it's only 1 + 1 hp per 4 levels, not 1d8 +1.

It's not too good to be true, though. Yes, you can heal, at level 20, a whopping 6 HP by giving up an attack. And it means all your divine healer party members probably can't help you out. The main benefit is you can get up to full HP between encounters.

Also, anyone who tells you that negative energy burst also affects you doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's hoping your DM is really gullible :P

if the Sage were to rule against it, it would go right against the RAW in a very blatant way.

it does help your horde a little, though.

Yeah. But when I was first looking at the Dread Necro I peeked into the Optimization forum. You really gotta hope your DM can't read to pull off some of the builds they have there :P

Ok, I'm a bit confused. If the touch does work, shouldn't it be a d8+1/4 lv? I agree the burst couldn't help you - it emanates from you, not including you, else a lot of spells would suddenly become suicide methods.

I'm only going off memory, but I believe in the ability itself is says that if it's used for healing via Negative Energy for such things as undead, it only does 1 +1 per caster level up to +5, or some such.

Indeed, that's unfortunately true.
