A druid's animal companion has the share spell ability at 1st level. My player has 2 attack pets that he trained with the handle animal skill. He wants to create a feat that is similar to his animal companion share spell. Question is...To use a feat that shared spell with all his animals within 5 foot radius including a mount, is that an unballanced feat.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but he essentially wants a feat to turn single-target and/or self-target spells into multiple-target party buffs.

Even limited to animals, probably a bad idea.

I think there is a prestige class that gives multiple animal companions, the name escapes me though. Beast Master, or something to that effect.

for example share spell is an ability of his animal companion that grants all spells that you cast in a beneficial way, buffs and heals, affect your animal companion as well. the catch is the animal companion has to be within 5 feet of you when you cast the spell, if the spell has a durration of longer than instantanous, the animal must stay within 5 feet of you at all times. So a protection from evil has a durration longer than instant, if the animal moves farther than 5 feet the effects of the spell end for his animal.
He is asking, at the cost of him taking a special feat can those same rules apply to any animals that he might train useing handle animal.

my gut is saying no problem, it seems at higher levels it wont make much of a difference anyway. I cant really seeing him useing it for anything more than a mass cure spells for just his animals.

what you think?

Seems fine.

Benefit: Your "Link" and "Share Spells" abilities gained from the animal companion can be applied to a second creature.

Dragon Magazine also had a feat for a second animal companion, which may in fact be better. I know Dragon wasn't official, but I'll see if i can find it.

Hmmm I can't find it. There's a feat in Complete Adventurer that referes to having more than one animal companion. I didn't think Comp Adv was pre-3.5.

Its because there's a Prestige Class in Complete Adventurer that lets you have multiple animal companions.

Uhmmm. . .

This might be a bad idea considering what can happen.

Bob the Druid
Then casts Quillfire giving all of the pets near him a nasty poisonous melee or ranged attack with a dc of 13+ your wisdom bonus + any other boosts.

Now if he has a friendly mage, or cleric this can get to truly terrifying levels, can you say enlarge person on him followed by polymorph into HD Equivalent hydra. So that could be with just two pets and a 7th level character, 21 attacks at +10 to hit each all doing 1d8+1d6 strength damage with a dc of 16 to 18?

It wasn't in Dragon (that I know of), but it's here on the Wizards site. Check the Wild Life link in my sig.
