Would you be able to use the Elemental Substitution feats to affect you Warlock Invocations or Blast Essences? I didn't see anything on this in the Complete Arcane and I don't have Complete Mage as of yet.

if you mean Energy Substitution, then no, the affected spell has to already have an elemental descriptior which the Eldritch Blast/Essence would not have, even if you could get around the fact that EB/E is not a spell but a spell-like-ability and doesn't qualify for things that specificaly require or effect spells.

besides which, you already have your choice of three elements (fire, cold, acid) which are BETTER than those feats, because you get additional effects as well.

and if you really want lightning or sonic, create appropriate essences to alter yoru blast accordingly. Lightning would be about the same levels as fire & cold, sonic would be a greater or a dark, depending on the additional effects.

Or [Feat] Energy Substitution Spell Like Ability.

There really is no reason not to be able to use the feat as is. There is no increase in spell level, so unlike the other metamagic feats, a spell like ability version would be exactly the same.

there's no reason to Energy Substitute a EB anyway, it already goes right past any type of resistance or DR. only thing that slows it down is SR or magic immunity. why would you want to take your already sub-par damage and let someone resist it as fire damage or whatnot?

You do get energy resistance if you have any of the elemental type Eldritch Essences, such as Vitriolic, Hellrime, Brimstone. I was thinking of using the energy substitution feat as a way to change these essences while keeping their effects although I can see the use of just making new ones and buying the corresponding feat.

I will speak with my DM about making my own.
