Can a core rules 3.5 Eldritch Knight benefit from this Practiced Spellcaster feat? Even though he's getting prestige levels as a caster as he goes, since he's obviously multiclassed?

Don't see why not. If part of his multiclass was not a spell caster then up to 4 levels of that non-casting class are added to his caster level when determining spell strength. The Eldrich Knight's prestige levels don't count as a non-caster, least from my point of view.

No reason why not.

You would get at least a +1 to CL, from restoring that 1 CL lost at the first level of EK.

There is no 'non caster' requirement for practiced spellcaster You just need another class and cannot get more than 4 levels or your max hd from it.

the practiced spellcaster example even uses a wizard/cleric.

all that said though If you follow normal Eldrich knight forumula of only one or two fighter levels and the rest wizard then You will not benefit alot from it.

Well, we normally play almost pure core rules only. But I'm thinking about cheating and taking the feat as his last feat at 18th level. (3.5 core).

He's a half elf, 4th Fighter/6th Sorcerer/7th Eldritch Knight. (17th level).

He only has a few spells that would benefit, but I really don't have anything else "to do" with him. (We also don't play epic, so 20th is "done").

In that case, your 4 fighter levels would be applied, with that feat, to your Sorcerer spellcasting and be worth the feat if your DM allowed it in a Core only game. I mean, it won't affect many of your early spells which cap out, aside from say, range you can affect things at. However, you would have 12th level Sorc spells, and cast them as a 16th level Sorc for all purposes beyond spells known and spell slots. That would help quite a bit in making your build viable.

*Smirk* --- I'm the DM. But we really *all* are the DM. We have been a group for 20 some years.

And yeah, about the only spells that the +4 levels might help the character are chain lightning and mass charm which he'd be taking next level. You're right about the capping out mostly. Like I said, it's not about anything really important, it's not "a build". We don't power-play at all. It's actually a character that has survived since AD&D in the late eighties. ;)

Converted and played some more, since, with 3.5

I think I'll probably go ahead and do it. Thanks everybody, for the input.

I had gotten the impression that the OP had used a non caster as a base. Don't know why, but that is what I thought. I should of said, any class that doesn't already stack with your caster level could then be applied.
