| VampyresThrenody04-12-07, 11:24 PM | I have a question for DM's out there. I have a player who uses an elven double bow. For those of you who don't know what this is, it is a bow with two strings that allows you to fire two arrows as a single attack for a -2 attack roll. Should I allow this player to use this bow with Rapid Shot? In other words, he would fire two arrows. The first attack roll would be at a -2 and the second would be at a -4 (-2 from the bow and -2 from rapid shot). And he also wants to know if he will be able to stack this with the manyshot feat when it becomes available. Manyshot allows someone to fire two arrows at an opponent within 30' with a -4 on the attack roll. Should I allow this feat to stack with the characteristics of the weapon for a -6 to hit for one attack roll to shoot three arrows? I know that the Manyshot feat allows additional arrows for every 5 BAB points at an additional -2 penalty, but should I allow an extra arrow based on the weapon? |

The first attack roll would be at a -2 and the second would be at a -4 (-2 from the bow and -2 from rapid shot). The penalties for Rapid Shot and from the bow are untyped so they would stack. When you fire the 2 arrows at once, it would be a -4. When he uses it to fire a single arrow it would be -2, because of the Rapid Shot penalty. Remember Rapid Shot is a full attack only, so you would have to reload the second arrow as a move action in a previous round before you can use rapid shot in that fashion. Otherwise, the bow counts as a longbow as long as the second arrow is not loaded so he can have iterative attacks as normal after he shoots the double. As written, Manyshot would not stack with the bow's ability, because Manyshot is a standard action and not an attack action. It also specifically says you may fire 2 arrows, not "one extra" the way Rapid Shot does. He could use Manyshot while using the bow as a normal longbow. It could be useful between your Rapid Shot full attacks because you can use a standard action to Manyshot, and then the move action to ready the bow for a full attack with Rapid Shot in the next round. Also remember you can't stack Rapid Shot with Manyshot, because Rapid is a full attack, which would be a full round action while Manyshot is a standard action (not an attack). Personally I wouldn't allow the elven double bow though. |
