| tarkin09-21-07, 04:54 PM | Empower works on any 'direct' variable that is affected by the spell. It works fine on healing spells. It does not work on: Dispell Magic (it is not a direct variable. But try Twin spell and Repeat Spell) Bull Strength spell (no longer variable) Teleport (no direct variable, mischance is considdered indirect) the hitpoints, attack rolls, damage rolls, stats of summoned creatures. The base statistics that a newly created/intelligent creature gets (i.e. things like awaken) They are indirect, not direct. It does however work on add ons to a variable. I.E. a magic missile does (1d4+1)*1.5, not 1d4*1.5 +1 In addition, it explicidely does not empower the Maximized part of a spell. An Empowered + Maximized Fireball does 60 + 10d6/2 Note, the FAQ stupidly makes this an exception. By making it an exception, instead of the rule, they made an Epic feat that has two non-epic pre-reqs be no more powerfull than taking two non-epic feats. Fools. I house rule that all metamagic feats work the way Empower and Maximize say they do in the PHB, not the silly way in the FAQ. |
| InkBlot09-21-07, 05:16 PM | It does not work on: the hitpoints, attack rolls, damage rolls, stats of summoned creatures. However, it does apply to how many creatures you get if you choose to summon 1d3 or 1d4+1 creatures from a lower level list. The creatures you summon already existed somewhere, and the spell just brings them to you. That's why an empowered summoning spell doesn't change any of the stats of those creatures. The stats where already in place before the spell was cast. |
| Puca09-21-07, 08:14 PM | What all does Empower apply to. how about the heal spell Heal would not be affected. Fixed 10 points per caster level. It works with other "healing" spells, e.g. Cure Light Wounds, as Tarkin said. The previous two posts covered the reasons why and all. Plus we got the chance to see Takin make his case about metamagic interaction (again). :D |
| The_Unseen_Illusion09-22-07, 11:42 PM | ...In addition, it explicidely does not empower the Maximized part of a spell Maximied Fireball does 60 + 10d6/2... Interesting, I did not know that. |
| The_Unseen_Illusion09-22-07, 11:44 PM | But what id you Empower Cure Light at a CL of 6? Will it be: -(D8+6)*1.5 or -(D8)*1.5 + 6 |
| Salla09-22-07, 11:47 PM | But what id you Empower Cure Light at a CL of 6? Will it be: -(D8+6)*1.5 or -(D8)*1.5 + 6 Cure Light Wounds tops at +5, but it would be (d8+5)x1.5 |
| The_Unseen_Illusion09-23-07, 07:30 AM | Oh, right, knew that |
