| FrostHammer03-07-07, 07:01 PM | If I need to make a Tsunami spell be 40ft wide per level instead of 20, should I use Enlarge or Widen Spell with it? If Widen, then what's the price of a greater rod of metamagic, Widen? |
| cwslyclgh03-07-07, 07:09 PM | Tsunami has a range of long, so you could use enlarge spell on it to increase its range. ENLARGE SPELL [METAMAGIC] Benefit: You can alter a spell with a range of close, medium, or long to increase its range by 100%. An enlarged spell with a range of close now has a range of 50 ft. + 5 ft./level, while medium-range spells have a range of 200 ft. + 20 ft./level and long-range spells have a range of 800 ft. + 80 ft./level. An enlarged spell uses up a spell slot one level higher than the spell’s actual level. Spells whose ranges are not defined by distance, as well as spells whose ranges are not close, medium, or long, do not have increased ranges. however this would not increase the area.... enlarge spell never affects area, for that you need widen spell, unfortunatly widen spell has limitations upon what types of spells it can be used upon. WIDEN SPELL [METAMAGIC] Benefit: You can alter a burst, emanation, line, or spread shaped spell to increase its area. Any numeric measurements of the spell’s area increase by 100%.A widened spell uses up a spell slot three levels higher than the spell’s actual level. Spells that do not have an area of one of these four sorts are not affected by this feat. Tsunami is not a burst, emenation, line, or spread there for widen spell will not increase its area. |
| FrostHammer03-07-07, 07:35 PM | So what can I do to increase its width? 20ft/level just isn't going to cut it, and repeated casting of this spell gets expensive. |
| cwslyclgh03-07-07, 07:38 PM | I can't think of any way to do it that is legal under the rules. sorry. :weep: |
| FrostHammer03-07-07, 08:20 PM | Aww :( Guess I'll have to make do with that width. |
| LordBOB77703-07-07, 09:51 PM | Maybe if you tell us what your planning on doing we could come up with something to satisfy your question, or better yet do something better. Just a thought |
| FrostHammer03-08-07, 01:40 AM | I want to wipeout/push back an entire low to mid-level enemy army. Tsunami won't hit the entire army, since it's not wide enough. I guess I can cast it multiple times... |
| stackmachine03-08-07, 05:00 AM | low-to-mid level army u say? let some heightened, widened cloud-kills roll over them. should work just fine. follow up with the l9-spell that raises an undead army from a field of corpses (dont remember its name, but you'll get the picture anyhow) and wipe out the rest with them. have fun! |
| Thrasher200503-08-07, 10:13 PM | How big of an area do you need? Caster lvl 17 x 20 feet = 340 feet O.o...how much bigger of an area do you need? |
| FrostHammer03-09-07, 01:12 AM | My country can have anywhere between 75 and 175 square miles, and is roughly square. That means at the minimum my country is 8.66 miles wide. It really depends on how the enemy army arranges itself. I wonder if Dispel Magic works against that tsunami or Control Weather. |

Armies don't line up over the entire border and walk like they were sweeping a field for debris. Just tsunami the valley they are marching up. Use your other spell slots for the divinations and teleportation to find where the army is (or better yet, just look for them or have soldiers on your borders instead of relying on a single spell). |
