If you qualified for all the other requisites could you take an epic feat even if you are not technically an epic character? Just curious

I'm pretty sure that being epic is one of the requirements--it's probably in the SRD but I'm too lazy to go look it up right now.

Possible, but very unlikely.
Venerable dragonwrought kobolds have been the subject of much debate over this...:D

Finally worked up the ambition. From the d20 SRD: (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/epic/feats.htm#acquiringEpicFeats)

Acquiring Epic Feats

Characters gain epic feats in the following ways:

At 21st level, and every three levels thereafter, the character may select an epic feat in place of a nonepic feat.

This part I'm not sure of, but IIRC any character with 21 levels can take an epic feat--that is, a dragon with 21HD may take an epic feat upon taking its 21st HD. Like I said, not positive, but it's probably in an FAQ somewhere.

The interesting part is that draconomicon states that dragons of age category old or older may take epic feats.

Guess which genius decided to give kobolds their very own dragon age categories in races of dragon?;)
