| sijigs11-07-07, 06:03 PM | Hi all, not sure if I'm looking at the right places so I need some help. If a monk is in a 20ft cube room and a fireball was thrown in that room can a monk still get the benefit of evasion? I know you could do this in 3.0 but some players at our table seem to think that this has changed in 3.5? Thoughts pls. |
| arjomanes11-07-07, 06:07 PM | Yes. The spell effect does actually fill up the entire space completely, but there is enough room within the area fo effect for a skilled rogue or monk with evasion to be able to dodge the flames within the area of effect. Notice that you don't ever actually move outside of the area effect with a successful reflex save. It's an ability that lets you remain within the area of effect but still dodge the damage from the spell. The people at WotC recommended that for flavor purposes you can say that there are some safe pockets within the area of effect that a character with evasion is able to find to avoid damage from the spell. |

I you be in a 5 ft room with the Monk squeezing and cast Fireball and he would still be able to take no damage with a save. |

| BW022211-08-07, 09:11 AM | sijigs, Evasion does not require the character to move out of the AoO. Think of it more like ducking, covering your face, dropping prone and re-standing, twisting your body such that the blast/fragments hit you from the side (where you have a smaller area), etc. at the exact movement the blast is moving past you. |

I'll use this as well as the "if you get a reflex save" point. |
