| unumplurum09-28-07, 05:21 PM | How does Extend Spell work with spells with multiple effects of different duration? For example, Nybor's Mild Admonishment has a duration of 1 round/level (in which the target is Sickened), and additionally the target is Dazed for 1d4 rounds. If I cast an Extended Nybor's Mild Admonishment, the target is clearly Sickened for 2 rounds/level instead of 1, but is it also Dazed for 1d4*2 rounds instead of just 1d4? My thought is that Extend Spell would only apply to the part of the spell which uses the "Duration:X" line, and not additional effects which have a different duration than the spell itself. But the text of Extend Spell is somewhat vague, and my google-fu has been too weak to find an answer. |

I am guessing that the dazed effect comes at the end of the sickenned duration, which would indicate that extend doesnt have any effect on it, just as lower or higher caster level changes nothing in the d4 dazed. |

Thanks, though - I hadn't read the description of Empower Spell recently. It doesn't seem likely Extend would duplicate some of the effects of Empower. I'd still appreciate a definite answer if anyone knows, but I'll assume Extend doesn't double the daze duration. |

If the spell Sickens for so many rounds leaving the target dazed for so many additional rounds then I'd just extend the number of Sickened rounds leaving the same number of Dazed rounds. If the Daze is actually part of the spells effect, instead of a residual effect, then I'd say it benefits from extend as well. My general rule of thumb would be that if a duration is related to you casting level then it should be affected by extend. |

If NMA says "Duration: 1d4 rounds plus 1 round/level" then I'd let extend double the duration of both effects. If it just says "See text" well, then you'd just have to wing it. I'd want to read the spell first. |
