I was driving today thinking about a character I had just run, and his advancement when I realized I had a question.

As of now the character is a Barbarian 1/fighter 1 with the feats improved init and extra rage. Extra rage is the problem, and can be found in complete warrior.

As I was driving I don't have my books, and I am at a place without books for the next several days I thought I would come here. -If I don't get an answer this literally might keep me up at night thinking, I'm a dork I know-

The character is going into the frenzied berserker class eventually, -pretalked with DM and party, it is ok- I am curious how this feat interacts with a character who has both frenzy and rage. As 99.9% of FB's will. Do I get

A- extra Rages or frenzies, picked when I take the feat.
B- extra rages or frenzies picked as I use them.
C- extra rages and frenzies.

I am leaning to A, but that leaves the question, if they are picked when I take the feat, can I then take the feat again and apply it to frenzy instead? B and C seems silly to me, but they are options I could see as legit.

Any help would be great.

Its A, but with an exception. I can't remember off the top of my head if the feat even allows you to pick frenzies, but assuming it does, you still have to have frenzies before you can pick up extra ones.

It's (another) one of the things I don't like FB- it gives you a separate pool, rather than simply changing what your rages do.

I would have to go with option A. Since frenzy and rage give different bonuses you would have two pools. You can take extra rage repeatedly just have to say which pool it goes to once you have both class features.

The only thing holding me up on going with option A, is that the feat dosn't explicitly say " may be taken X times" like most other feats you can take multiple times.

Does this mean I should retrain that feat out for a new one, until my first level of FB? Or is it clarified somewhere.

Look in the 'Special' heading, until you take FB any extra rage feats taken would go to rage.

ok here is the deal with frenzy it gives +6 to str -4 to ac and if you make a full attack you get an additional attack but it does not stack with haste, and well you frenzy you will take 2 points of nonleatheal damage . The effects of frenzy stack with normal rage so you can use them simultaneously so you would get +10 str +4 con +2 morale bonus save to will and -6 to ac as well as 2 points of nonleather damage per round. as for the feat extra rage it can be used for frenzy or rage use but only one type you may take it any number of times its effects stack so later you will want to take extra rage and specify it is for frenzy. now you can ask your dm if you can split feat up since it gives two uses per day extra mabey get one rage and one frenzy. I dont see how it would unbalance the feat if you broke it up. If I stated anything wrong please let me know. the feat extra rage is a general name it states in complete warrior rage or frenzy but it says that your rage or frenzy mor then you otherwise could so you have to have the ability first.

The feat text does not tell you to choose Rage or Frenzy when you select the feat; consequently you make no such choice when taking then feat.

Therefore, what you get is a pool of extra daily uses of the Rage ability or the Frenzy ability. When you draw on this pool, you use either ability, and the next use can be for the other.

So the answer is option B.

Merestil Haye is right, it's three extra uses that can be applied to either rage or frenzy. I believe there was an FAQ or something on the subject.

Three? I was under the impression it was two.

Well thats certianly cool, I'll have to look for the FAQ, and now that I'm with my books I can actually be helpful and read over it again.

Check with your DM, too. His word is final.

Hmm, my bad, I was going off memory. It is two. It's just that most of the time those things are three extra.

well yes, duh. But I do like to get the official rules correct, and if the official rules side in a manner better to me, and my DM rules against it I can now argue my case better. Of course he is free to house-rule it as he sees fit, but he rarely uses houserules and also prefers to play things by the book.
