| Old_School_Overlord01-22-08, 06:10 PM | Is there a feat that will grant an extra swift action? |
| dman1123501-22-08, 10:54 PM | No. Never. There is a feat that allows for more quickened spells in a round: Multispell. It's epic, and in the SRD. |
| Crimson_Concerto01-23-08, 12:01 AM | I believe that at 20th level a Swordsage can use two Boosts in one round three times per day. Otherwise, I think the Ruby Knight Vindicator prestige class in the same book can spend Turn Undead attempts or something to gain extra swift actions... |
| Kouk01-23-08, 01:21 AM | The Psionic Power (like a spell) Hustle grants a Move Action in exchange for a Swift Action, but there is no way to get a Swift Action from anything else. |
| Old_School_Overlord01-23-08, 06:35 PM | Ah, interesting. Is this just an area of design space that hasn't been looked into, or is it the sort of thing that could lead to brokeness? For example: Combat Response Prereq: Combat Reflexes, Dex 15+ You can take an additional swift or immediate action per turn. |
| ToastedAmphibian01-23-08, 06:43 PM | Id say its pretty much just a bad, bad idea.... |
| Hsien01-23-08, 06:44 PM | It would tend to be unbalancing, imo. Take ToB stances(?) and Marshall, DShaman Auras for instance Round 1: Swift Action: Change Stance/Aura to benefit character's action Standard/Full Action: Perform action/attack Swift Action: Change Stance/Aura to benefit defenses against enemy attack That doesn't even take into consideration all of the Swift action triggered Magic Items in the MiC, several of those would make combat real messy. |
| Witch01-23-08, 06:48 PM | Ah, interesting. Is this just an area of design space that hasn't been looked into, or is it the sort of thing that could lead to brokeness? For example: Combat Response Prereq: Combat Reflexes, Dex 15+ You can take an additional swift or immediate action per turn. Even Multispell, an epic feat that only allows quickened spells to function is broken. A bland generic, easy-to-qualify-for non-epic feat generically offering extra swift actions will break your game even sooner. |
| BigGus01-23-08, 09:30 PM | Funnily enough, I've recently been involved in a discussion about introducing just such a feat on the Epic Level forum. I certainly wouldn't allow it at non-epic levels, and even at epic levels I would either allow it to be taken only once, or limit it to once every 20 levels. In fact, the reason it was suggested was that I'd been saying that Multispell gives casters just too much of an advantage if they're allowed to take it multiple times without restriction, and allowing noncasters multiple swift actions was suggested as a way to level the playing field a bit. One possible version might be; Multiaction [EPIC] Prerequisite: Improved Initiative, Lightning Reflexes, Dex 21 Benefit: The character gains an additional swift action per round. Special: This feat can be taken multiple times, but not more than once every 20 levels. (Thanks to strenoth and Avatar of Kokusho for suggesting this one). If you absolutely MUST introduce a feat like this pre-epic, give it hard-to-meet prerequisites, and whatever you do, don't let it be taken more than once. PS Allowing multiple immediate actions is an even worse idea. |
| kalstrand01-23-08, 09:58 PM | The Ruby Knight Vindicator in the ToB can spend Turn Undead attempts to get extra Swift actions and it can be pretty broken. |
| Lyndis01-23-08, 10:00 PM | Yeah. Ruby Knight Vindicators can do this as many times per turn as they want as long as they have Turn attempts. If a Paladin also takes the Battle Blessing feat, he can also cast all of his spells as Swift actions. That means a Paladin/RKV can cast all the buffs he wants in the first turn. Fun eh? |
| BigGus01-23-08, 10:19 PM | Oof! That's worse than DMM. I do NOT want to meet a RKV with a bag full of Nightsticks... |
| Lyndis01-23-08, 11:48 PM | He doesn't need a bad full of them. He'll run out of spells before he runs out of turns. |
| koiulpoi01-24-08, 12:52 AM | The Synad (race from Complete Psionic) gets a 1/day extra swift action, but it can only be used for a mental action. |
| Malicea01-24-08, 02:47 AM | The Synad (race from Complete Psionic) gets a 1/day extra swift action, but it can only be used for a mental action. Arcane Spellsurge from Dragon Magic shortens all your spell casting times, including making all standard action casts into swift actions. That alone would break casters with the feat. The spell itself is a standard action, allowing it and 2 other standard action spells to be cast even in the surprise round, were that feat to exist. Mix in a metamagic feat and a sorcerer (full round spells become standard actions) and you'd be shooting out 2 standard and 1 metamagiced spell per round after. |
